Mio Satomi | Wonsu citizen - High society
Words: 134 Together with Yun, Satomi made a polite bow to the stranger. She was sure Quán had a reason to distrust him, but she could not show that. Now, she had to be nice and polite, and act as if he was like any other guest. She could barely wait to the man was gone to talk with Yun. "What did he say to you?" she said with a warm smile. It was not the first time that Satomi had taken advantage of Yun talking with guests. Of course she did never intentionally ask him to spy on someone - she had others to do that - but if she ever caught him talking with someone she wanted to know more about, she asked him, and every now and then it had helped her.

Yun | precious baby boy
"He said that I was doing magic wrong and then showed me a magic trick. It was pretty cool. He also agreed that Raven is super cool!" Yun said excitedly while skipping along next to Auntie Satomi. "Meh, he was just showing off and winning favours if you ask me. It was not a long conversation before you came to interrupt." Raven said as he landed on Yun's back.

"A magic trick, huh?" Satomi said. "That sounds exciting!" Magic, she noted in her head. It was only expected. All the people Quán had been wary of and told to keep an eye on she had caught doing magic too. It was still nice to have it confirmed. "You did not happen to catch his name?" she asked them both since Raven had decided to join in on their conversation too - not to her surprise or dismay, she liked him.
Evie | Scout from the Verensa Herd
Words: 208 It had been a while since Evie had slept in a bed, and it was hard for her to let go of it and start the day. When she finally stood up, neither Conell or Sinan was in the room. Great, she thought. So I am the lazy one, huh? She took on the same coat as she had worn yesterday and quickly brushed her mane and tail. She liked them long but was not a fan of the work it took to maintain them and keep them nice. As she walked down the stairs and around the hall,s she noticed that the numbers on the rooms were off. Two rooms almost next to each other were numbered 29 and 51. Is this so that people will be confused? Why is that? Eventually, she found her way to the eating hall and had her first real food to eat for months. Looking out at the area she noticed Conell sitting alone. She figured the smartest thing would be to join him, it made the chance smaller that people would come up and talk with either of them, plus, they did not have to talk if they needed a second of peace - which at least she did.

Yun | precious baby boy
"No, he did not say his name," Yun said and shook his head. "But I also did not give him mine," he added with a grin. His mother always told him that he should be careful who he gave his name to and he intended to keep it that way. When the two of them arrived back at the room, Yun was almost immediately enveloped in a tight hug by his mother. "Mama, what—"
"Thank goodness, you're alright bǎobèi," his mothe rinterrupted him and tighened the hug. "But I was just outside. Is something wrong?"
Quán | the spy no one expected
Quán didn't know how to answer her son's question and neither did she know how to answer the questions Satomi was undoubtedly going to have. Instead, she just broke the hug and sighed.
"We'll talk about this later. First, I have to go out and get some things," she said and looked at Satomi with a worried expression. "You know I hate to ask this, but can I work in the kitchens starting tomorrow? It's less pay, so I will have to perform more often to make ends meet. Would that be alright?" Quán knew that business talks like these, while quite common, always ended up being held in a safe area in the private quarters of the hotel. There she would have the needed privacy to answer Satomi's questions without having to fear that Yun or anyone else was overhearing them. Asking for a slight employment shift like that their secret code for discussing strategy at this point. Satomi would understand.

"But I also did not give him mine," Yun said with a big smile. "I see you remember what your mother told you, that is good," Satomi said. ~ Satomi did not like to see Quán worried, because she knew that is was rarely that she was, and now that it seemed like it might have something to do with Yun, Satomi wanted her to worry at little as possible. "Of course you can. I will get it arranged with the kitchen right away, do not worry yourself with that." She looked down at Yun, who's expression seemed to be something between worried and confused. He isn't stupid, she thought. He knows something is not right. She wanted to tell him something, something along the lines that 'it's nothing' or 'you did well', but she was not sure it was in her place to do, so she left that to Quán.

Shui Quán | the spy no one expected
Shopping in the city was a tedious affair. Usually she would use the day to spend some quality time with her son and do things he wanted to do, but that was a luxury she could not allow herself at the moment. If she knew one thing after all, it was how Scouts worked. Step one was obversing the area and getting a feel of things. Step two was to gether information from the locals. Depending on however long that would take, they could move on to step three—combining—in a few days already.
They were most likely in Wonsu because of the mysterious murderer. At least that was the only thing that stood out to Quán like a sore thumb in the last few moons. While she wanted nothing more than for the murders to end, no matter how righteous they were, she still did not appreciate them digging at the case. This was her turf, even when she could not put any real claim to it. Old habits died hard though and the nagging annoyance that came when some other Scout tried to solve her case was hard to ignore.
Quán also did not want the trail to lead back to her, which it actually might. She started it after all. Curse her! If she would have known that it would bring Sinan of all people into the very hotel in which she lived, then she would have run away that night. Damn that wolf woman and let her be assaulted by her violent husband. She had a cruel tendency like that, valuing her own welfare above that of others. It had cost her some heavy sacrifices to get that way.
Which brought her back to the topic she had tried so hard to ignore: Sinan.
The universe truly hated her and she was not even the Unseelie in this equation. How was that fair?! Over the last four years she has managed to mostly forget him. Other catastrophes, both major and minor, had come and gone in that time and had provided a fantastic distraction. Moving away from her past and forgetting it more with every passing year was...freeing. She had not felt this good since she had been to summer camp! And yet...he had to come and disrupt her peace. Worse yet, he has talked to her son! What if he would realise something and seek her out to have a talk? What if things would start to go wrong from here on out?
No. That ignorant asshole could burn in hell for all she cared. She would work in the kitches for as long as he stayed and just tell Yun to stay away from him. It would be no different to when other members of her former herd visited the hotel and she told Satomi and her son who to be wary of. They all had the art of avoiding certain people down to a T at this point! There would be nothing to worry about.
When Yun and she got home in the evening, she sent him straight to their room and ordered Raven to keep an eye on him so he would not go outside again. Not that it happened often, but it was better to be safe than sorry.
She then started her quest of finding Satomi. They desperately needed to talk strategy, especially since Quán would only last another day or at most two until she'd have to go hunting again. And with the full moon only a week away, she really could not allow any mistakes to happen.
Quán should have known that it wouldn't be that easy. She should have remembered that the universe was out to get her. That's how she literally ran into someone when she hurriedly turned a corner. Yes, she had had looked out for nearby presences, but the thing with mages trained to fight fae was that they could hide said presences annoyingly well. And she was out of practice.
She did not pick up anything beyond fae and air mage when she tore herself away and hurried trotted away with a "Jiànliàng" which was an Eriwonese polite apology. No time. She could not risk them picking her magic apart even though that probably already happened. When she, unpracticed as she was, could tell the elemental magic type within a second, then they could without a doubt pick out hers as well and most especially her magic root. Her tainted magic root. But most especially they would pick out her magic pattern: fae. She hoped that she had been quick enough to not let them notice that she was a Caspana, but what they had probably gotten was bad enough already.
By Duana, the world despises me!

Evie | Scout from the Verena Herd Words: 624
Evie was good at hiding it, but she was fascinated but Wonsu. She enjoyed looking at the simplest things like food or clothes, but she especially liked the music, and the sounds the instruments made. She had to stay focused, however. Despite how much she would love to forget about everything and waste all their money on whatever kind of alcohol they made in Eriwon, she could not get herself to do so. Not yet at least, she thought. This was not just missing house-animals or a simple thief as she had dealt with before, but murders. She needed a clear head for this. Or at least, that is what she told herself.
The trio had been spending the day apart. They need a calm day to get to know the area they were living in, so that they would not have to waste time later with minor things as finding their way back to the hotel, finding a busy street or a calm one and more. Plus, they needed a day away from each other after traveling together for so long. Evie wanted to know how the people in Wonsu was compared to the people of Nordberg, which was the kind of people she was more used too. So she had used the day on a busy market.
She was now back at the hotel in their room alone and had been for a while. She did not know where neither Conell or Sinan was, but she did not care too much for now. She took on her coat and looked one last time on a note that was on their table, close to a little opening. It had appeared while they were all gone.
Hello dear guest Here at the hotel, we have an advanced but easy to use "room-service" system. If you have any needs or anything else you want brought to your room, ring the bell and a Raccardi will come right your way to help you. If you have any questions, please do ring the bell and ask.
Thank you for visiting our hotel Sincerely, Family Mio ~
Her thought immediately went to the worst case scenario and assumed that the raccardies could be used for spying, but then realized that it could be her scout training making her feel paranoid. Better keep an eye open anyway, she thought. She had just gotten down to the lowest floor, as her magic senses started tingling. There was someone with magic near her, and not exactly someone with little skill either. Evie was a skilled mage, S-class to be exact, so it did not take her long to pick up something. Fae, water mage, and- They bumped into each other, which was to Evie's surprise. She had felt them, but not expect them to be that close. Was she hiding her presence? "Jiànliàng," the stranger said quickly and moved backward. - and light mage, Evie finished her thought. But...wait, tained? It did not make much sense to her. The woman standing in front of her was without a doubt a light mage. Why could she feel the presence of dark magic in her too? Think later, she thought. (Too surprised with the tainted magic root, Evie did not realize the woman in front of her was a caspana, and she needed to act now on the woman's apology.)"That is quite alright. Are you okay?" Evie then asked, in her natural accent. She knew how to do an eriwonese one, but she figured that she looked so much like a foreign anyway, that the best role to play was simply a traveler. Not to mention they were at a hotel, it was perfectly reasonable to meet someone with foreign.

Shui Quán | the spy no one expected
Quán, who was already in the process of hurrying away to find Satomi felt herself stopping. If she would run away now, she would go against the general politeness Eriwonese people possessed and would in turn made herself suspicious. Don't run away from the enemy. Face them! ...It was odd to think of someone from Derenta as her enemy, but still.
The mare in front of her looked a little younger than herself, though not by much. Then again, it was always hard to tell with Caspanas that basically stopped aging by the age of ten.
"Yes, I am quite alright. Please excuse me now, madame, I have an appointment to get to," Quán said in her quite native sounding Eriwonese accent. With all the years she has lived in Wonsu she wondered if she was even able to speak in her native accent anymore.
And with that she hurried away again, praying to all the merciful gods that she had talked to a Warrior or a Healer, who were significantly less skilled in analysing magic types that Scouts were trained in. The last thing she needed was to be found out on the first day they stayed at the hotel. She had survived other visits of groups from her old home without arising suspicion, she would just do it one more time. And then again int he future. Her pride of a former Scout did not let her believe in failure.
Alright. Now I just have to get to Satomi and face all of her questions, Quán thought with little enthusiasm. That would not be fun.

Evie did not reply to the woman, as it looked like she was already on her way again. She said she had an appointment, but Evie figured there were more to it. She was fae and knew magic, she had likely also seen the magic in Evie. That meant she had to be careful now, someone at the hotel knew about her now. Damn it, she thought. On the other hand, Evie also now knew about her. As long as the woman kept it to herself, they would be okay. That was also the likely thing to do, she was fae too after all, she would have trouble explaining how she got to know about them. Evie also did not see much point in starting trouble with this woman, they were all fae in the city, it was limited how good it would do any of them to starts rumors. She would have to tell Sinan and Conell about her of course, and her magic root. Maybe one of them knew something about that. Evie made sure to get a good look at the woman so that she would be able to recognize her if it came to it.

Getting Quán into the kitchen had been no problem at all, she Satomi had expected. She made sure the people working in the hotel were people who would not question her and go along. The kitchen chef was the usual "tough skin, big heart" guy. It took very little talk to get him to be understanding. Plus, she had worked in the kitchens before so nothing new to him.
Satomi sat out on her balcony in the family's private part of the hotel, on the highest floor. It had a lovely view of the garden, and it made it easy for her raccardies to spot her, which was useful when she needed information fast. A raccardi came flying from a window on the ground floor and landed on the balcony fence next to her. "So what did you find out?" Satomi asked. "They did not write any journals or diaries. There was no kind of documentation, as you said there would not be. At least not while I was in there." "No surprise there, they would not leave something like that behind. What else?" "They have weapons with them. They did not leave any behind in the room, but I saw them all leave at different times, all caring weapons. And based on what they left behind, I would guess they are from the north." "Thank you. Is that all?" "I do not know if it matters ma'am, but miss Quán and one of them stumbled into each other just now in the hallway. I believe miss Quán is on her way to here." "Thank you. Will you please find her and accompany her to me?" Satomi asked. They had their doors locked, Quán would not be able to enter unless someone let her in. The Raccardi nodded and flew off, while Satomi stood up and prepared some tea with a teapot nearby.

Sinan | Scout
“Hey Shorty, how is my favorite scout girl doing?” Sinan asked teasingly as he just came back from his city tour and crossed paths with Evie. It’s not like the stallion forgot her real name, he just enjoyed giving other people nicknames. He had a charming smile on his face and you could hear that he was in a good mood. The fresh air and some alone time, really done him good. At this time, the grey mare was all by herself, so Sinan didn’t notice how she bumped into someone else. “Wait, don’t say anything!” the dark stallion added quickly and did not let the mare even answer his question. “You should join me in the hotel’s bar and answer my question after some drinks. What do you say?” he asked with a smile, waiting for Evie to respond.

Shui Quán | the spy no one expected
Quán almost had a heart attack when she suddenly heard Sinan's voice and therefore made it even more of a point to get away as fast as possible. She heard something about a bar, which meant that she knew what place of the hotel to avoid for this evening. She stopped behind a pillar to get her nerves back together. It's just like all the other times someone from the herd visited. No big deal at all.
No matter how often she repeated that in her head, it didn't make the statement any more true. Because it was different this time. Sinan was with them, which made all the difference in the world! Quán gritted her teeth, suddenly having the strong urge to tear something apart. Forget the generous two days she gave herself earlier. She'd have to to go hunting tomorrow and not a single day later!
"Miss Shui?" A voice suddenly said and she looked up to see one of the Raccardis hovering in front of her. "Please follow me. Miss Mio is expecting you."
Quán let out a sigh of relief and nodded.
As Quán followed the Raccardi to the private quarters of the Mio family, she went on alert again. She could not let down her guard until she was safely in a room with Satomi. Luckily that didn't take very long. She almost slumped against the door when it closed behind her and then looked over to Satomi on the balcony. "Good evening, Satomi," she said as she stepped on the balcony beside the other mare. "I bet you have a lot of questions but I can't tell you everything."

"Well someone is in a good mood! Did visit a brothel today or something?" Evie said and already started heading to the big hall, which she had gotten to learn would open a bar about this time, while people would be performing too. The employes and the guests of the hotel did not seem to shut up about it. "But don't get any ideas, deal?"
"Shorty" Evie repeated in her head. I am not short! .... Am I?

Satomi sometimes envied Quán for her water magic. Heating up water to make tea would save her much time every day. Quán also had the joy to always have her tea at the perfect temperature. Satomi prepared the kind of tea that she knew Quán liked, but also knew was good at calming nerves, which she was guessing she had a lot of based upon her reaction earlier today.
"Good evening, Satomi," she heard a familiar voice say behind her. "To you too," Satomi said, and then shortly after Quán had joined her side looking over the garden. Without saying anything Satomi handed her the tea. "I bet you have a lot of questions but I can't tell you everything."
Satomi smiled as if she had told a joke. "Well yes, obviously. You rarely do. It is always a mystery with you." Satomi took a sip of her tea. "Let us get one thing out of the way first. These people are like the others, right? The spies as you call them."

Shui Quán | the spy no one expected
Quán let out a humourless laugh. "Yeah, I guess you could call them that," she said and took a sip of the tea. It was her favourite kind!
"There is something different with the ones who are here this time. Or at least with one of them," she looked out into the empty garden, her expression tired and equally empty. "I know one of them personally and would like to prevent any encounters with him. He thinks I'm dead and it should stay this way."
She threw Satomi an apologetic smile. "I can't tell you details, but as far as I'm aware he thinks that I died before I could give birth, which means that he doesn't know about Yun." Quán took a deep breath and slowly breathes out again. She needed more than tea to calm her nerves if she wanted to talk about Sinan without feeling the urge to throw around furniture.
"When looking at him it's quite obvious that he's Yun's father, but I can't let him come to this conclusion. My old life is over and I live her in relative peace now. I won't let him ruin that," she growled. Literally growled, like the sound a predator made before tearing their prey into pieces. She was usually very composed around Satomi, but this time it was hard to keep her composure. She shook her head and coughed.
"I'm sorry. You know how protective I get when it's about Yun. Anyway, to keep him from suspecting anything, I will have to stay away from my baby, or at least be seen with him as little as possible. Raven will keep an eye on him and I'm sure a lot of the staff would be happy to occasionally watch him too. I am not asking you personally to take care of you, since I know how busy you are. But if you happen to see Yun near that stallion from earlier today again, please find an excuse to get him away from him. The last thing I need is my child being corrupted by that narcissistic asshole."
Quán looked at Satomi, knowing fully well how much she asked of her.
"I will of course reciprocate with information about other guests and the like as soon as these people are gone. Anything to repay you, really."

Sinan | Scout | Narcissistic Asshole
“You know I wouldn’t do that in the middle of an important mission.” Sinan answered sarcastically with a smirk as he followed Evie to the bar. His good mood actually didn't have to do anything with the conclusions of the grey mare, but it was more fun using sarcasm than just be honest about it. “Besides, why should I spend money for a brothel, if I have you.” Sinan added with a grin as he looked at Evie. He actually just teased her, although he had to admit that she was kinda adorable with those beautiful purple eyes.

Evie | Scout from the Verensa Herd Words: 168
"Dream on, loverboy," Evie said and rolled her eyes. She would have been snappier if it was not because she had gotten used to him by now.
Since dinner had just been served in the hall, there were quite the moving around in there. Employees were busy getting a stage ready, tables out of the way and whatever little leftover food there was back in the kitchen. Evie glanced at the windows to get a sense of time. The sun had just passed the horizon and was out of sight, and she thought of all the caspases that turned their coat right about now back home. She did not miss them very much right now. In the side of the room something opened up, that seemed to be a bar. She had not seen it earlier since it had been hidden away with some kind of moveable wall, but now they were lightening the candles and she could see at least a few bottles of something over there.
Mio Satomi | Wonsu citizen - High society Words: 389
That something was different this time had been clear from the beginning. Quán was calm and collected, so seeing her so desperate as earlier was a rare sight. Her having a personal connection with the stallion had been one of the more likely explanations too. But him being the father? she thought. She did not want to jump to conclusions earlier, but it made sense. Maybe it was wish-thinking, and she did not want the mystery to be over. She had always wondered about the father of Yun, especially because she knew so very little.
"- I won't let him ruin that," Quán growled quite literally. It was still odd for Satomi. She still had to get used to the whole fae-thing, and she was reminded of it by the very few signs that Quán showed every now and then. Satomi was not scared of it, not anymore. She had been in the beginning, but she had come to learn it was a part of the curse, having mortals fear one. Satomi was not afraid now, not at all, but it still did take some getting used to anyway.
" - I will, of course, reciprocate with information about other guests and the like as soon as these people are gone. Anything to repay you, really." Satomi took another sip of her tea, which had started to become cold, or at least in her opinion. As a fire mage, she always thought they turned cold too fast, she liked them hot. "Do not worry too much with Yun. He is welcome to continue his studies here-" she said and looked around, indicating that here were the private quarters of the hotel. He for sure would not be found there, it was locked after all and guests were not allowed "- and I will also gladly look after him. I can not promise much, but I can certainly look after him at least a couple of days. I have for a while meant to buy him a toy, maybe he can pick out something for himself now?" she said smiling. "You know I can not say no to a little interesting fact here and there when you pick them up, but do not worry yourself too much with repaying. It is fine, really. Anything to keep Yun safe."
