Sinan | Scout | Narcissistic Asshole
“Well, maybe you change your mind after some drinks.” Sinan added with a confident smile, as he leads Evie to the bar. The reason behind his good mood was pretty simple. The dark stallion was just happy that he was back in a city full of new faces and alcohol. The long travel was so boring.
The two horses arrived just perfect, as the bar barely opened and the bartender was still busy with cleaning the glasses. Maybe they had to wait some minutes before they could order a drink, but at least they got the best places at the bare from where you could also see the stage. “It’s a shame that Eriwon doesn’t have vodka, but I’m sure we’re gonna find something else.” Sinan said to Evie, as he looked at the drink menu. He was tempted to try something more traditional for these lands - like sake. But he also heard that they have some good whiskey. "What do you say Shorty, should we order a bottle of sake?" Sinan asked with a smile, as he looked at the grey mare. The bartender was finally finished with his work and approached the two guest, to take their order.

Shui Quán | the spy no one expected
"Thank you so much, Satomi," Quán said and breathed an obvious sigh of relief. With Yun being in a part of the hotel where he would surely not encounter anyone she didn't trust, she could at least be at ease with that point. There was, however, still another thing to worry about.
"I'm still worried about why they are actually here," she said and looked out into the harden with a serious expression. "You know that I was the one who committed the first murder and while it is eating me alive, I don't quite regret it. The one I killed was a horrible man." She shook her head. That wasn't important right now and Satomi knew the whole story already anyway. "What I'm worried about is that copycat I inspired. They are defenitely a mage, when also not as skilled as I am. That shows by them only striking at full moon and also only when the full moon is visible. I think they use the moonlight and bend it to form a weapon. They're therefore a manipulator rather than someone who can control an element. Everyone with a basic knowledge of light magic could do that though they are proving to have commendable accuracy and good aim since they never need more than one shot.
"The troubling thing is that I started this series of murders and I am so close to figuring out who that copycat is. Now that they showed up, they will just get in my way. They might even suspect me, with which they would not be far off, but still wrong. I am confident that they won't kill me, even if such a thing is suspected, but they might still cause trouble for me, threatening to tell the authorities and the like.
"My goal is to catch that copycat serial killer before they get the chance to do any of that, but I'm not sure if I'll be successful." She looked back to Satomi, her eyes serious yet pleading. "If anything should happen to me, then please take care of Yun. I don't know who else I could ask and I need to be sure that he is taken care of if worst comes to worst."

Evie | Scout from the Verensa Herd Words: 94
Evie looked at the shelves, but they were too far away to read, and by color, she could not recognize any of them. Sinan who appeared to have found a menu, spoke up. "What do you say Shorty, should we order a bottle of sake?" he said. For what sake? she was about to ask but then realized that sake what the drink itself. "Sure, sounds good." Suddenly she remembered reading the word in a book and her memories slowly started to educate on what exactly it was that she was about to drink.

"- accuracy and good aim since they never need more than one shot," Quán said. When the murders had begun they had talked, and rarely since Quán had begun investigating it. It was not happening in the hotel after all and thereby out of Satomi's field, and she had little advantages. Advantages and experience that Quán had when it came to investigating, therefore this time Quán knew more about what was happening then Satomi. On what she knew from Quán, she had concluded something along the way of her. On the spot, her guess would be a guard or a hunter, or someone else with experience for using a bow. However, that was only because of what Quán said with aiming, she had no proof or evidence to back it up. "Yes, all that seems to make sense," Satomi said. She did not want to bring anything else up, it seemed like Quán had more to say.
"-threatening to tell the authorities and the like." This made them both of them turn quiet for a moment. It was hard to bot imagine it happening, Satomi was quick to brush it off, she did not want to think of what could happen to Quán with the authorities got to her, and find out she was fae - or even worse, a caspana. Satomi let Quán continue.
"- If anything should happen to me, then please take care of Yun. I don't know who else I could ask and I need to be sure that he is taken care of if worst comes to worst." Quán looked her serious in the eyes. Satomi did not like it, not one bit. She was not about to let anything happen to her. It annoyed her that Quán was getting into something dangerous and for once Satomi felt like she could not do enough. Despite all that, Satomi felt touched and honored that she would trust Yun to her, and she would not forget that. "I promise, I will protect and take care of Yun, in any case, that you are unable to," Satomi said. She now looked at her even more serious in the eyes. "But please, do not let it get to that. The fact that he has a mother is more important than solving this mystery."

Quán gave a humourless chuckle. "Satomi, I started this whole thing, so it's impossible to keep myself out of it. Even if I woud drop my investigations, the first one the others would suspect would be the only fae in the area, which unluckily is me. And as much as I hate it to admit, they're in much better shape than me. I'm four years out of training and all I have right now is my wit and a little bit of ground St. John's wort." She sighed and was quiet for a moment. "I very much intend to stay alive and to keep myself out of danger as much as I can, but there are some things outside of my control, so I'll have to prepare for the worst. For example, I will have to go hunting tomorrow or it will end ugly."
Quán shuddered at the thought alone. When she was younger and her curse had just been awoken, she had, just to test it out, tried to not go hunting. The adults had always warned her of it, but some rebellious part of her had wanted to find out what the big deal was.
Bad mistake.
Poor Quint still had a scar from back then. She would rather prefer if Satomi would never had to witness what a lack of hunting would do to Quán.
"It's not full moon yet and I'm sure they won't have to go hunting themselves until at least two days from now, but if they suspect me, it is very likely that they will follow me. I'll be prepared for a confrontation and will rather try to avoid it altogether, but the odds ironically don't tend to be in my favour lately, so I'm preparing for the worst."

Sinan | Scout | Narcissistic Asshole
“Sake it is!” Sinan said with a happy grin and ordered a bottle. He actually didn't expect that Evie would be so easy to convince, to have a drink with him. Maybe he misjudged her or the grey mare had a rough day behind her and just wanted to enjoy the evening. However, Sinan was glad that she joined him. “As we wait for our order, let’s talk about a more important topic. We’re professionals after all.” Sinan said and gave Evie a wink. When the stallion was in a bad mood, he could be a total jerk but now it was the opposite. When being in a good mood, he was a real charmer and used every possibility to flirt and show off. “Did you stumble upon something interesting?” Sinan asked curiously.

Evie internally rolled her eyes once again when Sinan winked at her. She had gotten to know that flirting was just something he did, and even though she had to admit it was quite charming, it did not work on her. Now the question came down to when he would realize that. Or even if he did know, if that was a reason to stop.
“Did you stumble upon something interesting?” "Well, now that you mention it, I ran into someone today here at the hotel - or them into me, to be exact - which I figured you should know about, Conell too for that sake," Evie started. "I did not get to pick up much, but she fae and a water mage." Evie looked concentrated, as what she was thinking of did not make sense to her, and she was trying to figure out why - which was what was happening. "Her magic was rotted in light, definitely, no questions aksed, but... there were some darkness too. Not just like with our curse, but in her root. It was tained by dark magic. I have never seen anything like it!" Evie said, of course, with certain parts with telepathy. She was not about to risk being heard by anyone.
Mio Satomi | Wonsu citizen - High society Words: 93
Satomi knew that Quán would have to keep investigating, though she did not like to admit it. Which was odd, Satomi usually did not let herself get carried away with emotions. She could also see her sense in preparing for the worse, she did that herself too - just in case. That way she could never be too unpleasantly surprised, which was something she hated being. She sighed. "I suppose that is how it is then. I hope the luck will turn." Satomi drank what little she had left of her tea.

Shui Quán | the spy no one expected
Quán bit her lip and then shook her head.
"So, I was thinking, Satomi," she said. "My getup for the performances is quite effective to hide most information others would be able to pick up from my presence. How many spots for evening performances are open in the next two weeks?"
The getup Quán was talking about was a bridle with several gemstones, each specific to hide another aspect of her. Two for her appearance, one for her voice to keep from being recognized, one for her elemental magic and three at once for her magic source. They were effective enough to even hide her from her own kind—Caspanas—which made it the perfect disguise. Quán had spent half a year's pay in advance on them and ten paid back her debts through those performances in only half that time. Needless to say, they were very lucrative.
Of course Satomi had first voiced small concerns about the bridle itself and what it represented, but Quán was used to playing charade. If she had to play a slave for a few evenings to pay for her rent and for Yun, then she would gladly do so. And it was not like a lack of clothing, as it was common for slaves, had ever bothered her—she grew up in a herd full of unclothed horses for pete's sake!
And it was not like these kinds of services were offered at Hotel Mio anyway, as Satomi had made very clear at the very beginning when Quán had started to work for her. That also applied for slaves. If any guest would think otherwise and would cause trouble, then Quán was allowed to kindly point them out to Satomi and the black mare would then deal with it. Some had even been thrown out of the hotel in the past for that kind of behaviour.
Shortly put: Quán was safer when she was performing practically naked—in their perception at least—in front of a crowd of people than when she was wandering around the halls fully veiled.

Quán's question should have caught her off guard - it was quite the change of topic - but it did not. Satomi knew that the gemstones would hide her from the strangers, Satomi's plan had been to ask for if she was going to perform, but it looked like she did not have too now. Therefore, Satomi had done her homework and could answer accurately. "There is a spot for tonight, and most of the coming days, expect tomorrow and the day after that."

Shui Quán | the spy no one expected
Quán sighed. Tonight already? She thought, since it was quite spontaneous. Then again, she should be able to handle spontaneous things by now and singing the same songs she always did and the getup she always wore wouldn't be a challenge at all. "Tonight is good. Please also note me down for every other open spot you have but leave everything open for the evenings next week." She would need time off in the evenings when full moon would come around. Maybe she'd be able to catch the Moonlight Murderer before Sinan and the others did. Ha! That would be something! If she could, she'd defenitely rub that in his face, just out of sheer pettiness. But she shouldn't celebrate yet. With her luck, everything could also go horribly wrong and she did not want to jinx her fate.
— o.0.o —
Getting ready for the performance was easy. Just a quick detour to her room to get the bridle and checking that Yun was asleep—he was—and then she hurried back to the staff area of the hotel. Behind the stage of the bar was a small room where performers could get ready and that's exactly what she did. She shed the kimono and the veil she had worn and hung both neatly on the hanger on the wall before donning the golden bridle. The spells on it immediately had an effect, turning her brown coat and mane into a shimmering white and her blue eyes into yellow ones. Just ebcause she could, she had also added a few red dapples and a red strand in her mane to not look too plain and therefore suspiciously fake. A few other details such as a beauty mark below her left eye and some streaks on her hooves also contributed to making this a perfect disguise.
"Ten minutes, dear," an old Raccardi said as she landed on the desk in front of Quán and helped her with applying the makeup. The disguise was good, but adding some additional wow-effect never hurt. She held still as the practiced creature applied brown powder on her eyelids. "I guess it's the usual again, or did anyone wish for a song?" She asked. Mostly things were going according to the program, but sometimes a wealthy guest would pay extra money to ask for a specific song to be sung. That was often quite problematic, as Quán did not know every song in existence. "Yes, it's the usual. No extra wishes today, especially since your performance is quite spontaneous." The Raccardi tsked. "You need to be less impulsive with those things. It's quite bothersome for the organisers to have surprises like this sprung on them." Quán cringed guiltily. "Satomi offered it. I'm sorry about the bother."
The remaining ten minutes were spent finishing the makeup and doing vocal chord exercises. Music might come natural to fae, but Quán was no prodigy. She would never come near to the enchanting quality that air mages had when they sung or even close to a siren's song, but she also wasn't bad. Maybe a little better than the average person, but barely on the level of a successful regular singer. In short: She did not draw enough attention to herself with her singing to be suspicious, but she was also good enough that she did not need to worry about being horrible when performing.
She took a few deep breaths as she waited behind the curtain. She had done this often enough to be used to it by now and the jitters she had had at the beginning were almost completely gone. There was still always a weight in her stomach that she identified as a little stage fright, but it would dissipate as soon as she stepped on the stage and started to sing. That was always how it was after all.
Then she finally heard the barkeeper—a nice sphinx Quán had become good friends with—go up on the stage and announce her performance. "And now, ladies and gentlemen, we have a special treat for you. The hotel's very own gem of the North: Myriel!" He said and the curtain opened to reveal Quán. She threw the barkeeper a thankful smile and a nod before turning to the audience and smiling at the applause. She was always advertised as someone from the North Lands since, no matter how hard she tried, she just wasn't able to keep her accent out of her singing. It just added an exotic feeling though, Satomi has said.
The Raccardi from before started to play on a string instrument, the first notes drifitng through the room before Quán took a breath and started to sing the lyrics to the familiar song. It was something she had picked up on one of her travels to Nordberg in the past and therefore her accent just added to it rather than being seen as distracting. The song was about a fisherman's wife waiting for her husband to get home, but he never did. Not exactly the happiest song, but it had a nostalgic sound to it and was very nice to sing. She was well into her third song—this one about a young love—when she noticed that Sinan was present. She almost stumbled over her words, but caught herself just in time by averting her gaze and looking at the rest of the crowd instead. As long as she wouldn't glance to the bar, she should be fine.
After half an hour and about ten songs, she bowed to the audience and walked off the stage. She would continue after a short break, but she really needed a glass of water and a little rest for her vocal chords. Said glass of water already stood at the edge of the bar. There was just one single problem: Sinan was practically right next to said glass. She would just have to take it and ignore him to the best of her ability then. Yes, good plan! Just ignore his existence!

Sinan | Scout | Narcissistic Asshole
Sinan listened to Evie but looked away, as the bartender put down a bottle of sake and two glasses before the two horses. Sinan nodded as a ‘thank you’ while pouring Evie and himself a drink. “Well, that’s indeed interesting. I guess we found our first suspect. Good job, Shortie!” the stallion said with a smile and took a sip of his drink. He tried to cover up his real thoughts as the magic description reminded him of Brook and the whole unpleasant situation. It happened years ago, but Sinan still wasn’t good at talking about it. She was gone and so was her foal, there was nothing he could do to fix his actions. “We’ll keep it in mind but for now, we should celebrate!” Sinan added with a fake smile, as he poured himself another drink. Luckily he ordered a whole bottle of alcohol, that made the situation a lot easier.
It didn’t take long for the show to begin and the singer started with her performance. Sinan wasn’t really paying attention as he was busy with pouring himself and Evie another drink until Myriel started to sing. He looked in her direction, spotting a beautiful white mare on the stage. There was something special about her, something that the stallion couldn’t explain. It was not her pretty appearance, her soft voice or her performance that caught Sinan’s eye. There was something else, something that made him curious. Through the entire performance, the dark stallion here and there looked at Myriel, trying to figure out why he had this strange and weird feeling when he first saw her. Luckily Evie was with him, so he could distract himself with teasing her.

Satomi sighed as Quán left the balcony. She had an uncanny feeling from their conversation. She sincerely hoped it would not get the worst scenario where one day she would leave the hotel and never return. How would she ever break down something like that to Yun? She shook her head trying to force the thought out of her head. It would not come to that, she forced herself to believe. She called a raccardi to inform the organizer for the night that Quán would be expected to perform. She knew that if it was not because the organizer was slave, she would never hear the end of it. It would be an unexpected surprise that might cause some trouble. She made a mental note to apologize at some point. Satomi went inside and made herself ready - she would do her best to enjoy the rest of the evening at the bar tonight.
Evie | Verensa Herd - Scout Words: 138
Evie clinked her glass into Sinan's. "Cheers," she said and sipped it. Taste like rice, she thought took another sip. Though sounding enthusiastic, she sensed that something was off about Sinan for just a second. If it was a twitch in his smile or eye, or something else entirely, she could not tell. She then noticed he poured himself more already. She then decided not to think further about.
Evie did not mind the performances much the evening. Not until Myriel came up. Evie had traveled a lot to Nordberg with a close friend, and it was a song she could recognize and recall at least a few good memories with. She hummed along whenever there was a part she enjoyed, but then, of course, got caught of it by Sinan that, of course, teased her with it.

Shui Quán | the spy no one expected
One step in front of the other, don't panic. You got this, Brook. Brook? She almost paused in her approach of the bar but stubbornly continued before she could do so. Something about seeing Sinan had thrown her tremendously out of concept. After all, it had been many years since she had last thought of herself with that name attached. Her real name. Her old name. A dead name. A name Sinan knew and would recognise if she slipped up. A dooming name. Besides, she wasn't Quán now either, but the singer Myriel. It was a role, plain and simple, nothing more. "Excuse me, sir," she said politely, absentmindedly, not even really registering that it was Sinan she was talking to, when she arrived at the bar and almost bumped into him when getting her glass of water. She could have levitated it through half the room towards herself, but regular people lacked a reach like that, especially a simple singer. To not arouse suspicion from anyone in the room, she was forced to walk right up to the bar to showcase the ridiculous feat of revitating a glass of water a few centimetres off the bar and to her mouth. If she wasn't playing a role, it would be quite embarassing, really. "Hey, why the long face, sweetie? Not quite your night?" The bartender asked.
Brook, no, Quán...ugh...Myriel gave a sigh and shook her head. "I'm fine. Satomi just sprung the gig on me quite spontaneously an hour ago and now here I am. Another water please." The sphinx nodded. "Coming right up. Anything more for you too, sir and madame?" He then asked Sinan and his companion and she had to try her best not to freeze—or worse: look at him.
Don't look. Don't look. Don't look. Don't look! Curiosity was a godforsaken thing that had almost been the death of her many times over and might one day actually get her. Therefore, her inner mantra was of little use as she threw Sinan the most subtle glance she could at all muster. All the while, she needed to pretend that she neither knew his name nor how warm and soft he felt when she had cuddled up to him at night. Wait, what?!
Had that really been water in that glass or had she accidentally chucked down alcohol?! She shifted her tongue in her mouth but tasted nothing and there also wasn't the familiar warmth in her throat or a lightheadedness. No alcohol then, just her own, darned, nostalgic and irrational thoughts. She hated him! She needed to remind herself of that. She hated him so much...but she didn't really. Damn it.
It certainly didn't help that he had become even more handsome in the years since she had last seen him and this was really not the time for such thoughts!!! She averted her eyes, probably having stared for much too long and tried her best to look shy or even embarrassed. Well, she didn't really need to try very hard for that last one.

Sinan | Scout | Narcissistic Asshole
The rest of the time Sinan spend talking to Evie, trying to forget his thoughts, and not pay too much attention to the singer Myriel. It was probably nothing and it would be stupid ruining this fun night with this nonsense. The dark stallion turned around, so he didn’t tempt himself to look the whole time onto the stage. He was here to have fun and relax and he wouldn’t let any stupid feeling ruin this.
At first, everything went great. He shared some drinks and laughs with Evie, telling her a funny story from one of his previous missions. It was a nice conversation and it seemed like everyone enjoyed the evening. The room was full of guests and they seemed to enjoy the music and drinks. Sinan even managed to forget his previous thoughts and just have fun, until someone suddenly addressed him with sir as they almost bumped into him. It was Myriel the singer, who Sinan at first couldn’t get out of his mind but now, after some more drinks, all his concerns and thoughts were gone. The dark stallion turned his head in Myriel’s direction, quickly looking her up and down, saying nothing as he looked back to Evie, trying to continue their conversation. However, soon the bartender interrupted them by asking for another drink. There was still some sake left in their bottle, but with time the taste got boring. “Yes, I think I’ll try something new.” Sinan said with a smile, turning to Myriel, who was just standing next to him. “What’s your favorite drink? Any good recommendations?” he asked her, charming as always. Sinan noticed her glace, wondering why she was looking at him for so long. Well, it was obvious because of his good looks, what else could it be?

Shui Quán | the spy no one expected “Yes, I think I’ll try something new.” Sinan said and then looked directly at her. Nope, nope, nope! I am not dealing with this tonight!
“What’s your favorite drink? Any good recommendations?” Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope! "Err...perhaps," she coughed and then continued in a more convincing Nordberg accent—this was her native accent damn it! "Have you tried Baijiu yet? It's a local specialty." She was just promoting local delicacies, nothing more. Promoting them in a dialect she hadn't used in regular speech in a long time and in a voice that was designed to not be regonisable as her own. But then again, Sinan had heard her voice before...if he even remembered it. It had been a long time since they had last seen each other and he might have forgotten such stupid details. If he even remembered her at all.
Ouch. That was a hurtful thought. "I personally don't drink much," she said and shook her head to make the bridle chime a little. "Slave and all, you know? Besides, I have performances to give and I can't be drunk for those." Sinan wouldn't recognize her, the gemstones were too potent and the spells on them too strong. She had worked extra hard to make the glamour as perfect as it could be, even towards full fae. Yet still...he might be reminded of her. Of Brook. If he remembered her, then his thoughts might drift there in old nostalgia. Maybe. Then again, she didn't know what he thought, had never really been able to predict his crazy ideas and schemes. Truth was, he was an insane genius and she was just and had always been...ordinary and broken. When also not ordinarily broken. No, broken in a very unordinary and rare sense that this bridle, too, hid from him. The stupid dark magic teint. "Here you go, Myriel. One more glass of water. I could give you a drink on the house after your show if you want. You definitely earned it." She gave the sphinx a strained smile, knowing he meant well, but encouraging any such things would be reckless now. No matter how tempting it was. "No, thank you. I wouldn't want to get you in trouble." "Nah, it wouldn't be any trouble, really. Just one drink for sweet dreams?" She sighed. Maybe Sinan would leave before she was done performing and then she'd definitely need a drink! "A drink of my choice?" "Of course, but try to steer clear of the extravagantly expensive ones still," he said with a wink. She grinned. "One drink of my choice after the show then." Internally she hoped that her conversation with the bartender had made Sinan lose interest, but the moment someone from the other side of the bar called and she was left alone again, she felt the awkwardness from before creep back.
She was pretty like this, designed to be desired and beautiful and if she knew one thing about him, then that he couldn't help but to flirt with pretty mares. She'd need nerves of steel for this and chucked down her second glass of water as if it was a shot. Maybe she could pretend that it was and some water could give her liquid courage too? Oh, who was she kidding!? This was a disaster and she needed to get back on stage as soon as possible! Her voice was still strained though and she'd need another ten minutes at least. Somehow, she dreaded that those would be the longest ten minutes of her life.

Sinan | Scout | Narcissistic Asshole
After hearing Myriel’s answering his question in a Nordberg accent, Sinan was slightly surprised. He did expect a lot, but not this. However, this was maybe just his imagination. He did drink a lot after all. “Then I’ll take one Baijiu, please.” Sinan said to the bartender, without thinking about it any further. He expected a conversation but the mare started to talk to the sphinx. They seemed to be good friends but what other was to expected, since they both worked here. The easiest way would be to simply turn around and spend the evening with Evie, but everyone who knew Sinan knew that he didn’t like to be simply ignored or to be turned down. The stallion thanked the bartender, who put down the ordered drink and took a sip from it. That’s her favorite drink? Sinan wondered in his mind as it appeared to be quite strong, without a sweet or fresh taste that most females liked. Myriel would definitely drink more if she would just try the right alcohol.
After his eyes lingered on the mare for a little too long, Sinan turned again to Evie, pointing at his new drink. “Wanna try it? But don’t expect too much.” he offered her to take a sip from his drink, with a teasing voice. He couldn’t tell if she would be up for it as he didn’t know her too well, but maybe the grey mare was just as curious as Sinan. As the bartender finally left, he turned back to the beautiful singer. “So, did you have to recommend this drink because it’s part of your job, or is it actually your favorite?” the dark stallion asked teasingly, skeptically lifting an eyebrow. He highly doubted this was a lady’s favorite drink. Slave or no slave, she had probably better taste than this.
