Shui Quán | the spy no one expected
She tried her best to suppress a sigh of frustration. Of course it wouldn't be this easy to lose Sinan's interest. "Why? Is there something wrong with it?" She asked and while she had been tempted to put on an entitled tone, she was still playing a slave and that would have broken her charade in seconds. Instead, she opted for innocent confusion. "I get enough flavour in my life through other things, so I like my liquor simple and strong. Just as a lot of women would prefer their men to be, but I'm not gonna even start this conversation." She rolled her eyes.
Then, in a moment of absolute clarity, she realised something important. Sinan was slightly intoxicated which meant that his tongue might be looser. She didn't know about his companion, but it was at least worth a try. "Speaking of, if you're planning to stay in Wonsu over the next full moon you might want to look out. Rumours go around about a murderer that has it out for unfaithful and brutal men. Originally, at least. Who knows? They might change their target on a whim, so better stay inside at night."
Such stories couldn't scare anyone from Derenta, she knew that much. What they did though, especially when it came to people like Sinan, was to encourage boasting. By easing him into the topic, she might be able to figure out how much they knew already and thus where to best go the next night when she had to go hunt. With two weeks until full moon, there was little chance of the murderer making an appearance before then, but if the others would go around at night to search for them anyway, then there was a good chance that she'd run into them. She needed to cover her bases. "A merchant said something about the east side of the kǒngquè quarter being especially badly hit with two out of the three murders. Right, Kaliriki?" The sphinx turned around to her.
"The kǒngquè quarter murders? Ye, it's a doozy. People are getting paranoid and avoiding the place as of late." She nodded, only too readily agreeing. It was fortunate that the murders were centred on the place furthest away from the forest, so she probably wouldn't have any trouble th enext day. "You know, just a little bit of advice as a precaution. We wouldn't want anything to happen to our guests," she said with a winning smile.

Evie | Scout - Verensa Herd Words: 330
The night had been going well with Sinan. The new environments there were in now, in contrast to the road and forests they had been traveling on seemed to do well for their mood. And then the alcohol, of course. Which, Evie had noted Sinan was drinking rather much for someone who was suposed to solve a murder mystery in the coming hours, or at least he was drinking more than she was. She noticed him glancing every so often at the singer Myriel, which was no surprise, she was after call performing music on a stage in almost nothing but a briddle, but Evie had the strangest hunch that there was more to the reason he kept looking her direction.
~
Evie had to admit she got interested when Myriel came over, for as much as she had talked with Sinan, she had kept attention to the performence too. Evie's curiosity for the country was still high and she was still hungry for trying anything new and eriwon, so when offered tasting the baijiu she accepted. "Not bad," she commented, but put it down again, She wanted to limit her intake this night.
~
Evie took note of Sinan's interaction with Myriel. Had he finnally taken her hint that she was not interested in anything, and trying his luck elsewhere? He at least stood a better chance hooking up with Myriel then herself, Evie thought.
~
Evie turned around in intrest after Myria had finished. It seemed almost to convenient for this very topic to be brought up. "Thank you for the warning, we will take extra care. Speaking of, we have heard of these murders. Killings happening at full moons, three men dead, right? Frightening indeed." Evie said, but there was something Myriel had said that had cought her attention. Originally. The killer had it originally out for unfaithful and brutal men. How would Myriel know that? What excatly does that mean "What makes you belive these rumors?" Evie asked her.
Mio Satomi | Wonsu citizen - High society
Words: 164
Satomi had been keeping herself to the background this night. She had been talking with guests and enjoying the show. She had as a teen herself been performing dancing and felt nostalic often when she saw others perform. She noticed early on the two stangers being present, and kept en extra eye on them, but she concluded that they were simply enjoying themselves, and did not - yet - look like they were up for trouble. Satomi felt it odd knowing the father of Yun was present at the very place Yun himself was, sleeping peacefully and ignorant.
~
Satomi saw - to her surprise - Quán in her disguise walk up to the bar where the two stangers were, and they were striking up conversation! This took Satomi of guard. Quán had not showed much intrest in having anything more than absolutely necessary to do with the man, and here she was, barely an hour later. Satomi decided not to intervene - yet.

Shui Quán | the spy no one expected "What makes you believe these rumors?"She gave a thin smile. "We're in a hotel, madame. People talk, and the more stories I hear, the easier it is to find commonalities and filter out the truth from the pretty extra lies people like to add. Besides, I know this city and it's by far not the most outlandish thing I've heard yet. Especially with my standing it's often better to be safe rather than sorry. No one would ask twice about my demise after all." Alright, she might have veered a little too close to personal territory there with the last remark, but then again, she had lived it. Brook Malory had disappeared off the face of the earth and left Shui Quán in her place with the majority of people none the wiser. But she was portraying a slave now, which fortunately gave the sentence another meaning that fit as well.
"Anyway, I'll need to rest my voice for a bit now if I want to manage another half hour of performing. Though I still have five minutes, so why don't you tell me what brings you to Wonsu while I get myself another glass of water?" The less she talked, the less she could give away. Besides, she really needed to rest her voice for the second part of the performance. She was no air mage like those two after all but fortunately her vocal chords still recovered much more quickly than those of a normal person would.

Sinan | Scout | Narcissistic Asshole
Sinan was clearly surprised by Myriel’s response to the drink she recommended. He just asked her an easy question, without any further thoughts. Why needed she to change the topic and get all personal? He clearly felt attacked by her last sentence but luckily Evie continued the conversation about the misterious murder, so the stallion had enough time to forget the unnecessary comment. Why would he even care? She was just a slave.
“We’re just on a short trip. My girlfriend here-” Sinan said and pointed, with a slight head movement, at Evie. “-wished to visit Wonsu and see the beautiful city with her own eyes. A wish I simply couldn’t ignore.” he smiled happily. It was necessary to tell the mare a lie, he couldn’t possibly tell her the truth that there were powerful mages, who came from a hidden village to find the murderer. Putting it like this, it even sounded pretty crazy in his own head. “On our way here we heard about the rumors, but we just taught that they were scary stories.” Sinan added with a worrying face, making a step closer to Evie. “But thanks to your helpful tips I’m sure we don’t need to worry. Right sweetie?” he said optimistically as he lovely nudged the grey mare with his nose, as he would try to lighten up her mood. At this point, Sinan wasn’t sure how Evie would react, but she was a scout and should understand that they needed a cover. Hopefully, she would act professionally and just go with Sinan’s made-up story.

Evie | Scout - Verensa Herd
Evie's stomach froze when the word girlfriend left Sinan's mouth. She was lucky her training had made her excelent in not letting that show, but her training had also told her the best thing to do now - dispite every ounce in her body desperately trying to convince her the best thing to do was to lit his mane on fire - was to play along. Evie mustered to give a sugarly sweet smile to Myriel, and managed to not break the facade as Sinan thought it necessary to prove their fake relationship true with a nudge. Evie gave a little giggle like this was a silly little loving thing he did so often. "Of course darling, we will just have to be careful."
Evie's desire to lit something on fire grew.
She turned her head to Myriel. "Isn't he just the sweetest taking me halfway across the world just to let me experience this country? You are from the north yourself, you know how much it can take to get here," she said in a dreamy voice.

Shui Quán | the spy no one expected "Isn't he just the sweetest taking me halfway across the world just to let me experience this country? You are from the north yourself, you know how much it can take to get here."
Quán had absolutely no business to feel jealous, especially since it was most likely an act and Scouts excelled at acting. Was it wishful thinking that she hoped that this mare would kick Sinan's ass, and not in a way that was at all pleasant for him, before the night was over? Maybe, but she could still think about it and comfort the bite inside her that way. Either way, Quán was a single mother that worked as cleaning and sometimes waiting staff to make ends meet and therefore wasn't equipped for getting roped into a love triangle, real or not. Myriel had absolutely no sense left for such shenanigans either and Brook...well... Brook had practically been left to rot and die by this very stallion while pregnant with his child and therefore she had half a mind to beat him senseless with the almost empty bottle on the counter. Just like the two Scouts, she, too, knew how to play a role though, so she swallowed Brook and Quán both down and let Myriel throw them a sweet smile. "That's lovely. You certainly travelled a long way to get here, so I very much hope you'll enjoy your time in Wonsu and make the journey worth it. If you have any questions about the city or need recommendations then feel free to ask the hotel staff. They're all local and most know the city inside and out." She then turned her head when she felt a light weight settle on her back. The old raccardi from before was back. "Myriel, dear, you should go back on stage now. The crowd is getting antsy."
Her saving grace! She didn't dare to search Satomi in the throwd to send her a thankful glance, as she had no doubt sent the raccardi—they usually didn't act independently like this unles ordered.
"That's my cue. Enjoy the rest of the night, you two," she said and threw a wink at both of them for good measure as she turned around to walk back on stage.
The crowd applauded and whistled as she smiled at the entirety of the crowded room and beganto sing again. Just a few more songs, another half an hour and then she could drown her sorrows in one glass of alcohol before eventually passing out, only to wake up again for her lunch shift in the kitchen. It was less than ideal, and honestly fairly chaotic, but that's the price she had to pay if she wanted to keep Yun safe and let Sinan stay ignorant.

Sinan | Scout | Narcissistic Asshole
Sinan was happy that Evie played along so nicely but he didn’t expect anything less from a great scout. It was part of their job to play a role and fool others, it wasn’t anything personal. He hoped that the grey mare would understand, although he didn’t saw anything bad about the necessary lie. It was an easy one and very believable. Nothing could go wrong. Even if they had to kiss at one point, what would be so bad about it? There were no feelings involved and it was just a part of their act. “It’s really nothing. As long as you’re happy, I’m happy too.” Sinan said with a smile and looked at Evie, as she said that he’s the sweetest for taking her to another country. As Myriel had to go back to the stage, Sinan nodded. “We definitely will, thank you.” he said and waited for the mare to leave. He turned to Evie, acting as nothing happened. “There is still some sake left. Do we stay or do we leave?” he asked, leaving the decision to her. He didn’t want to stay here all by himself and it would also look stupid if his girlfriend would just go and leave him here. He kind of wasn’t in the mood for partying anymore. “We can go for a short walk. I heard the city is beautiful at night or we go back to our room if you’re sleepy.” he added, expressing some options as he could hardly tell if Evie was tired or not.

Evie | Scout - Verensa Herd
Evie felt her blood starting to boil. She felt frustrated and embarrassed beyond belief. “There is still some sake left. Do we stay or do we leave?" Sinan said. To Evie's relief she could hear on his tone that he was out of character now. Without a word she reached for the bottle and drank the rest of it's content it a single swip. She put the bottle down hard and calmly told Sinan telepathically "Pull another stunt like that and there will be an additional murder happening in this city." Since the sake was now gone there were now one option down. Evie stretched and stood up, and turned her attention to the sphinx Kaliriki. "Thank you very much for tonight, it's been a real pleasure," she said and tipped him a reasonable amount (slightly above average). "A walk sounds lovely. Shall we?" Evie asked Sinan, now back in character. As much as she loved the idea to find a dark alleyway to kick him for what he did, she was smarter than that. She knew he did it because they needed a coverstory, but she could still blame him for chosing that exact one! She did want to go for the city at night, and earlier she had imagined doing that on her own, but now she was stuck with him to keep the story going. It dawned on Evie that the people in the Hotel and the area needed to remember them as a couple for their story to be believable, meaning from now on, they would need to spend a whole lot of time together when in public. Damn it.

Sinan | Scout | Narcissistic Asshole
Sinan was surprised as Evie suddenly as she drank the rest of the bottle in one sip, on her own. She clearly was mad about the little lie he put up for their cover. He didn’t really understand why it updated her so much since it was just an act. It wasn’t like he put her in danger or humiliated her in front of the whole people in the hall. Some mares could be so difficult at times. He didn’t even answer her harsh remark but just throw her an apologizing and slightly confused look. Sinan said goodbye to the bartender and followed Evie outside. He was surprised that after everything she still wanted to go outside. She probably knew that it would be waste of time, to travel this far, just to work and sleep. But he could also assume, that the grey mare would rather take the walk alone. However, thanks to his mad up relationship they now had t stick together. Nonetheless, Sinan still didn’t saw anything bad about it. It’s not like she was forced to do anything she didn’t felt comfortable about and if she wasn’t comfortable walking beside him, the whole mission was going to fail anyway. However, he simply decided to stay quiet and to not provoke her any further. Maybe something bad happened in her past and she had a good reason to act angry and distrustful. Without thinking further about it, he walked beside Evie in silence, enjoying the beautiful city at night. The red and golden bridges looked so pretty and the streets were decorated with little lanterns. He admired the gardens and their architecture, it was so completely different from everything else he has seen on his journeys. Too bad he couldn’t share this moment with his friends.

Evie | Scout - Verensa Herd
Evie had felt annoyed at the begining of the walk. To her, it was inconvenient that Sinan had to be there, and now she was bound and restricted to the act they had made. But as time went on she cooled down and reasoned more with herself. In the end the act only made sense, and though this particular role she had stayed out of, it was nothing more than work in the end. And she had seen the apologizing look on his face: clearly he had not meant to provoke her. They walked in silence, and as more time went and the more they walked, the more Evie started to again feel the childish curiosity she had felt when they had first arrived, and her worries slipped from her mind. She glanced at Sinan, who like her suddenly also now seemed to be admiring their surroundings. She couldn't decide if there was tension bewteen them but either way she decided to try and break it. "I have a question. How excatly were you imagining Conell fitting into our little story?" she said with a little smirk.
Mio Satomi | Wonsu citizen - High society
Satomi had not known Quán long, yet she felt she knew her well. She thought she could see a certain discomfort in her, and she eventually decided to call a raccardi over to pull Quán away. Too curious for her own good, she decided to try and learn more herself, but before she could get close to the couple they were getting up to leave. Satomi decided not to take any chances and indstead took their place at the bar. She ordered something from Karlirki and enjoyed the rest of the show, hoping for it to be over soon and that Quán had anything interesting to tell from the short interaction she had with the strangers.

Shui Quán | the spy no one expected
When the performance was over, Myriel bowed and went backstage to change into her regular clothes again. The bridle got stored in a pocket dimension for the time being until she could physically put it back into its place in her room. Since Sinan and his partner had left the bar, she decided to forego the veil and just donned the Korunian dress from before. Wearing a face covering wouldn't come in handy for drinking at the bar anyway. When she stepped out again, she saw Satomi at the place where the two Scouts—or Scout and a Warrior or Healer, she couldn't really be sure—had been. Without further ado, she settled down next to her. "Give me something strong Kaliriki, I don't care what," Quán said tiredly. The sphinx chuckled. "You sure, xīngān? You have early work tomorrow, don't you?" Quán let her head sink to the top of the bar with a groan. "I'll brave through the hangover." She then finally turned to Satomi. "Thanks for the safe earlier. I was this close to physically assaulting him."

Sinan | Scout | Narcissistic Asshole
At the sound of Evie’s voice, Sinan’s ears twitched. He was glad that she decided to speak to him and it seemed like she wasn’t angry anymore. Maybe she just needed some time to think about it, since he just threw her into a fake relationship. But he had to compliment her about her acting, it was really great how fast she could switch between her role. She seemed like an amazing scout, but he didn’t expect anything less from her. The stallion was surprised by her sudden question as he didn’t expect that Evie would speak with him so soon. However, he noticed her little smirk and teasingly tone. Luckily she seemed a lot more relaxed than in the hotel. “As your brother?” he asked insecurely, with a nervous laugh. “I’m sorry about this.” Sinan apologized for the uncomfortable situation and looked at the grey mare, who was still walking beside him. “I had no idea the situation would be so uncomfortable for you.” Sinan said and tried to show her, that he didn’t intend to hurt her or make her angry.

Evie | Scout - Verensa Herd
"Well... now you know, right? But there is not much to change about it now, so no matter. Though I appreciate the apology," Evie said. Somehow it made Evie uncomfortable seeing Sinan talk like this. She had gotten so used to the flirting, the jokes and the smartassery all the time that these sincere words caught her off guard. She didn't like being caught off-guard.
Mio Satomi | Wonsu citizen - High society
Satomi giggled by Quán's comment. "Maybe I should not have helped then, I would have loved to see that happen," she said. She had a feeling Quán was not in the best mood and she tried to ease the mood. She took a sip of her own beverage, while looking around them. Except Kaliriki, no one was in range of hearing. She gave Kaliriki a little nod with the head as to signal to leave her and Quán alone, and then she turned to face Quán. "You already know I am gonna ask. What happened? What did they say?"

Sinan | Scout | Narcissistic Asshole
“I’m glad that you’re not angry anymore. A smile suits you better.” Sinan said happily before looking away, enjoying the beautiful streets that were decorated with red and orange lampions. Not a lot of people were outside anymore since it was geeting really late, maybe it was the reason why it seemed so peaceful. Life here was so different from the one back in their herd. Clearly, he enjoyed his life and was proud of his power and knowledge, but sometimes he wondered what it would be like to have a normal life in a city? Maybe some mistakes could be avoided and sometimes it just seemed that a life like this would be easier. However, he could never leave everything and everyone behind. His life was with the herd and it was his fate to protect them. Suddenly something caught his eye. “Oh look!” Sinan said with a smile as he trotted happily to a small pond with a lamp, that was placed in the middle of it on a stone. The water was clear and it was covered in a nice orange light, that came from the lamp. You could easily make out some coins covering the ground of the pond. “It’s a wishing well. ” the stallion said as he tried to find some coins in his pockets. “Let’s make a wish!” he added as shortly thereafter two coins were levitation in front of Evie. Maybe he didn’t make the best first impression on the grey mare, but he definitely had a lovingly and soft side. He just didn’t let anyone see it, since he had a rough childhood.

Evie | Scout ~ Verensa Herd
Evie felt unsure of how to react and think to this new change in his behvaior, but quickly figured there was no real reason to be puzzeled and just accept it as the current reality. She could see Sinan's mind already wandering away again as he admired their surroundings. She wondered where his mind was taking him. She wanted to guess, but she did not know him well enough to have any believable idea. Did he wonder of the history of this place? Was he dreaming of spending his time with his friends or family? His own aspirations? Is he dreaming of the future, or is his mind on the past? Evie didn't get to wonder much further before she was interrupted. A wishing well had appeared on their path, and Sinan seemed quite excited about it, already having two coins ready for them. "Oh, yeah sure!" Evie said, genuinely interested. "Uh, do you know of a special custom or something about wishing wells here?" she asked, and felt a small betrayal by the books she had read. She could not remember any of them having anything about Eriwonese wishing wells.
