Axel | Soldier
Axel had been keeping an eye on the hooded buckskin who had at the moment ended up in front of them. This horse was somehow familiar to him, but without seeing his face he couldn't be sure. As he watched the horse walk and suddenly come down with a limp he knew something was up, no one just instantly comes down with a limp as they near a group of soldiers unless they are trying to hide something about themselves. Axel cleared his throat and quietly spoke to Clayton who was luckily nearby.
"Umm, Clayton you may want to take a close look at this horse. I've been watching them since they were a decent way back the line and no one just comes down with a limp that bad as they approach a checkpoint. They're obviously hiding something, or even worse..."
Axel let his voice trail off, he was ready to take off running if need be. He would really enjoy stretching his legs right about now. The longer he thought about it, more bits and pieces came back to him about who this buckskin could be. He remembered the buckskin he had scared the pants off of during one of the Cantlos festivals when he was dressed as a skeletal horse, and the name... oh the name, Clayton had uttered it once when they had chased the pair through the streets that ended up working for his father. What was it now.... COUGER, how had he not thought of that before now, he only checked the wanted board at the compound two or three times a day and cougar was always on it. Luckily this came to mind before they had finished checking the buckskin through and Axel decided to take a chance and confront him.
Axel walked up to the buckskin, slightly behind him causing a shadow to cast over him before he spoke in his deep gruff voice.
"Well Cougar, what are you up too? Planning on taking some noble's jewels, or hunting for the brooch thief yourself? I'm sure you'd like to know how he does it, I would have thought it was you but even your not that good."
Unlike how he confronted Dara earlier, he kept calm and he was quiet enough not to cause a huge scene. Now Axel's only hope was that he didn't lash out or run off.

Clayton | Soldier (Messenger)
Clayton's patience was beginning to wear thin as he waited for their replacements to arrive. It had been a relief Axel and Ms. Morcos had been able to forgive and forget so quickly, and the pegasus was just itching to begin searching for the missing brooch. Not only did he have the opportunity to speak more with Rylon's mother, but he had the chance to crack this intricate puzzle that had perplexed Monabur's finest for a while now. Oh, it was exciting alright. As Clayton pressed the iron to what he thought was a dark mare's skin (Evie), he heard Axel warn him of an incoming stallion. His ears flickered at the sound of his comrade's voice, but he calmly finished inspecting Evie before lifting his head to look at the limping, hooded stranger. His eyes furrowed in concentration, Dark leg markings... The obeservation hummed in his mind, Don't tell me that's-
"Well Cougar, what are you up too?" Clayton overheard Axel say to the stallion. The winged-soldier's curved ears instantly went flat against his skull as he stared at the buckskin with complete repulsion. How he loathed that presumptuous child. Not only was Cougar a complete waste of talent and oxygen, but he had outwit him, a soldier who's expertise lay in the mental. And so, Clayton's hurt pride and bitterness became more poignant as he glared at the thief with dagger eyes.
With great effort, Clayton ripped his gaze away from his enemy so he could check their surroundings. There, he saw in the distance two other soldiers he could only assume were going to take his and Axel's place lazily making their way to the post. Clayton cleared his throat and glanced back over at Cougar. He didn't have time for the criminal's nonsense - he already had his mindset on helping Ms. Morcos, and the overthink-everything-stallion could only handle one crisis at a time. "I see you're still as idiotic as ever," Clayton spat at the stallion, "Or would you prefer stupidly audacious?" Clatyon had seen this dumb act of Cougar's before. It may have worked the first time, but it sure wasn't going to work again. How dumb do you think I am? It was fairly transparent in Clayton's eyes how offended and disgusted he was by Cougar's flimsy attempt to trick him. "You've lost your touch."
Better not try those tricks on me today, boy.

Dara Morcos | housewife [NPC]
Mrs Morcos kept on waiting for the soldiers. The next in line after her was a young grey mare who seemed to have held a conversation with the stallion behind her. As she went through the gate she, for some reason, started to admire the city wall. Maybe she's a tourist. Dara thought as suddenly the buckskin stallion limped to the soldiers and croaked a greeting. Axel did not look like he was believing the stallion though. "Well, Cougar, what are you up too? Planning on taking some noble's jewels, or hunting for the brooch thief yourself? I'm sure you'd like to know how he does it, I would have thought it was you but even your not that good." Was this a thief? By the gods, and he had only been two places behind her in line! She was lucky that she had started a conversation with the soldiers or otherwise she might have been robbed without even noting it. The pegasus, Clayton, seemed to be even less amused with the prospect of having caught a thief. If she wouldn't know better, Dara would say that he knew him personally. Maybe it was a reoccurring thief. Mrs Morcos did not really look at wanted posters for thieves and criminals in that much detail. She was more interested in famous mages, announcements of the royal family or the newest recipes for the next holiday's feast. Criminals were something Rylon and her husband could discuss at length, while she did not care much. She was always as careful as one could possibly be with one's possessions and made it a habit to never stand out much in a crowd so that she was easily overlooked.

Cougar | Thief
*Someone give these guys a pay raise, they don't miss much.* Cougar thought as first Axel then Clayton recognized him. With his cover blown the buckskin lifted his head and tossed back his hood, he gave his forelock a luxurious flip as if this was some casual meeting in the market. "Ouch, good thing insults are about all you two are good for." Cougar said cheekily, though it bothered him that the soldiers didn't think him good enough to steal the brooch. Whoever the anonymous thief was they were starting to steal Cougar's thunder, he made a mental note to start planning something big once this little fiasco was over.
Out of the corner of his eye the buckskin stallion noticed two more soldiers languidly strolling in the direction of the gate, probably the next shift. If he didn't talk his way out of this one quickly there was a good chance he would be spending the night in a grubby jail cell. "Past encounters aside..." here he flashed Clayton a dazzling smile. "I couldn't help but overhear you talking to the madam, over there." Cougar made a gesture in the wealthy mare's (Dara's) direction. "Something about going after the thief who stole the brooch. And I was thinking maybe perhaps I could help? I mean no offense but you two really don't have the capacity to think like a criminal, I however might be of use in that regard. It takes a thief to catch a good thief." Cougar gave them his best, you can trust me, smile and hoped he'd made a convincing argument. Cougar knew he was really reaching out on a limb with this offer to aid the soldiers, but perhaps they would see some reason in allowing him to join them instead of arresting him on the spot. They would have to decide which thief they wanted more. And Cougar knew for a fact that the reward money for the brooch was significantly higher than the price on his own head, for once that might work in his favor.

Axel | Soldier
Axel grumbled to himself, he was sure he would regret this later but for once he agreed with Cougar. He would have a better idea as to what the criminal might do since he hung around those types. Besides Axel was a bit on the tired side and didn't want to have to think too hard, leaving the hard work to Cougar might be beneficial for the time being. He decided to make the ultimate decision despite what Clayton would say, after all he did just throw Axel's help to Dara without consulting first.
Axel put on his "Don't try anything stupid" expression as he spoke to the well known thief. "Fine, you will accompany us on our little excursion to find this thief. But, try anything stupid and I'm hauling your butt back myself. Put your hood back up, stand on the other side of Clayton, and for gods sake keep your mouth shut. Clayton keep an eye on him for a moment."
With that the he moved quickly to the other side of the line and stopped staring at the soldiers approaching. He recognized the two, they were fairly new and lower ranked than himself, he had run into them quite a few times while he was on restricted duty after his battle with his father. He stood tall and in an almost drill sergeant like tone, called out to the two soldiers. "You two better pick up the pace if you want to keep your jobs, I'm more than willing to go to the commander and tell him about how poorly you carry out your duties."
That seemed to get their attention because the smaller of the two picked up the pace instantly practically kicking up his heels to get going. Axel gave an amused snort as he walked back over to Clayton, Cougar, and Dara. Making sure to stand in front of the thief to keep him out of view.

Evie | Scout (Verena herd)
*The texst below contains swearing*
Evie was getting impatient. She really wanted to see this young man again, but it took him longer to come out of the gate than she expected. Where the fuck is he..?! She took the few steps back and tried to find him with her eyes. She did. He was talking with two soldiers, one of them the one that was testing her with the iron. She shuddered by the thought of the iron, and then her eyes wandered to their weapons. "I couldn't help but overhear you talking to the madam, over there. Something about going after the thief who stole the brooch. And I was thinking maybe perhaps I could help?-". Cougar said to them. Shit! she thought. She was not the only one looking. She thought it would be fun to do it with this Cougar, he seemed like someone who was fun having around. But with these soldiers? No, she did not feel comfortable around them. Talking about the "madam", she had been looking at Evie before, when she was looking at the wall. Weirdo, she had thouht back then, but now she was suddenly not so sure. Then again, she was like almost every other woman in Monabur. A lady can't even go to the lake by herself in their eyes, she thought. She got reminded of the fight there had been just before. "I don't need an extra load thrown on my shoulders because you got the dumb idea to chase after a criminal yourself." Just because she is a woman. "No no, you can not do that. Here, let the strong man help you. You can't do that. You are a lady!". Why are it always like this in the cities? Especially in Monabur. Evie hated it. She was such a strong and stuborn woman herself. She hated to be looked down upon, and that often happened when she was in cities. The solider looked at Cougar, ready to answer his question. Please, don't say yes to him. "Fine, you will accompany us on our little excursion to find this thief.-" one of the soldiers said. Damn it.
She started walking over to the lake Rhea. It was not far away from the gate, she could see much of it already. There were cliffs almost all around it. She did see something red fluttering in the wind. On closer look, she could see it was flag, with the symbol of Monabur: A half moon. Or at least something that looked like it. She decided to go there, it had a nice view over the whole lake. Maybe she could spot something from there. She took a look behind a last time. The distance bewteen her and the wall was not big. If they came out now, they could easily call on her if they wanted to.

Sorry that I didn't post for a few days. I wanted to do it yesterday, but I had technical issues.
Dara Morcos | housewife [NPC]
Dara was shocked when she heard that the two soldiers planned to take the thief with them. It kind of made sense, but still! It was dangerous to have a criminal around. Not that she didn't trust the trained stallions to have the situation under control, but it made her feel uneasy regardless. She decided not to further question Axel's decisions, especially not after his slight outbreak earlier and to just make sure that she would stay away as far as possible from the buckskin stallion. With the new soldiers approaching, who would take over the shift, Dara regained some confidence and spoke up. "Are we ready to start the search now?" She asked patiently and hoped to not have angered the grey stallion with this question too.

Cougar | Thief
"Understood." Cougar said in reply to Axel's demands. He flipped his hood back over his head and even managed to stand where he was directed and keep his mouth shut for a reasonable amount of time... about twenty seconds. After that the thief began to edge around Clayton towards the gate. With Axel berating the two new guards Cougar backed unnoticed out through the gate, thankfully the new soldiers where too concerned with Axel's threats to notice the cloaked buckskin. Once through the gate Cougar was tempted to hoof it to the lake and leave the soldiers behind to eat his dust, but he'd made a deal and for now he was going to honor it. Until a better opportunity presented itself that is.
"Are we ready to start the search now?" The wealthy mare asked, a question that was obviously meant for the two soldiers.
Cougar answered anyway. "I am! Just waiting for those two. I have a feeling we might as well get used to it. Monabur soldiers tend to be a bit slow when it comes to apprehending criminals." He said in a playful tone. Just like the mare, he too wanted to be off and begin the search. He remembered the grey mare he had spoken to while waiting in line, he scanned the surroundings and soon spotted Evie. It looked like she had already reached the cliffs that hugged the edge of the lake, he wondered if she would wait for them to catch up. Her company would be far more welcoming. The buckskin stallion had a feeling the wealthy mare and the two soldiers just wouldn't appreciate his sense of humor.

Evie | Scout (Verensa herd)
Evie had gotten to the edge of the cliff that surrounded lake Rhea. She stood real close to it, so close the tip of her hooves were over the edge. She pushed a little rock and she saw it fall all the way down and hit the surface of the water. She was high up over the water, and she enjoyed it. She wanted to jump over and fly over it. Sadly, she could not. Yet, she thought. She was still practice ing on the whole flying-thing, she was not quite there yet. After she admired the high, she then admired the size of the lake. It was huge, and the other side of the lake was too far away to see anything that was going on. She turned her head around to see back the the little team that was formed. She could barely see them now, but she still could. And even better, her great sight made it more clear. She could also hear everything thay said. She heard Cougar asked to be quiet, and him not being quiet. She could not help to smile. She decided to wait for them. It was clear they were looking for the thief too, it did not take a genius to figure that out. The more to think, the better, she thought. Nobody is forcing me to make friends with them. Just... work. Evie looked back at Cougar, giving him an "approval" look. She was waiting for them.

Axel | Soldier
Axel gave instruction to the two soldiers that were replacing them before he turned to his team. About the time he did so Dara asked the magic question, "Are we ready to start the search now?" A smirk crossed his face as he quickly looked at all of them, finally settling his gaze on Clayton whom he would assume would remember that familiar sparkle in his eye from when they first raced through the streets. Axel's voice although always a bit rough and fairly deep seemed to pick up a new happiness to it as he spoke. "I'm ready if you guys are, just hope you can all keep up. I'll meet ya at the flag if you can't" With that Axel took off from the gate weaving through the people he passed gaining speed as he went until he was running full stride. Oh, how good it felt to stretch his legs and feel the wind in his mane. He glanced back to see the shocked faces on the others, but he could also see the same sparkle in Clayton's eyes from the first day they raced. It was nice that someone knew what he was feeling and he didn't have to explain it to them. One thing was for sure, this would blow the idea of soldiers being slow right out of the water. He bounded up the hill and slid to a stop just under the flag and next to Evie. He stood tall again and regained his posture before glancing down at her and smiling. Before the others got their he decided to speak with her just a bit, "I saw you talkin' with Cougar in the line and overheard that you were looking for the thief as well. It'd be a pleasure if you'd join us, we could use all the help we can get findin' this criminal. My name's Axel by the way, it's a pleasure to meet you." He had settled back into his southern gentleman accents and phrases, how he spoke most of the time but when he was stressed less so. For the most part he was polite and inviting and he would love it if this mare would join them, she seemed like she could be quite a help to them all.

Evie | Scout (Verensa herd)
It had not been long, before something new happened over at the fewfound team over at the gate. A stalion came running against Evie. It did not take long to realize, it was the guard from before, that had been into a fight with an other lady. Though, he looked rather happy. He was smileing while he ran, he seemed to enjoy stretching his legs. He slowed down the closer he came to her. Shit, he is gonna talk with me, isn't he? she thought. She was not a big fans of guards. There were a lot of trouble with them in the past. Not in Monabur thankfully. "I saw you talkin' with Cougar in the line and overheard that you were looking for the thief as well. It'd be a pleasure if you'd join us, we could use all the help we can get findin' this criminal. My name's Axel by the way, it's a pleasure to meet you." Evie felt almost bad for him for a moment. He sounded like a real gentleman, really good raised, and Evie was nothing like that. A careless rebel, that is what she was. "Yeah, I did talk with him before. Cool guy", she said. "And well, I am not sure how I should feel with you listening to our conversation ,-" she said with a cold face. She was not implying anything, she was just throwing it out there. "-I am looking for the thief too. I have... uhh- skills that could help us all". She started thinking back of all her scout trainging back then. It would come in handy here, she was sure of it. "The name is Evie", she ended.

University turned out to be busier than expected this semester. Sorry about the long wait.
Dara Morcos | housewife [NPC]
The grey mare wasn't much amused when Axel suddenly started some sort of race. She had been walking around the city wince the early morning hours and her dress was not made for such wild activities. She tried her best to keep up a fast trot, but that was the fastest she was willing to muster for now. It was no big surprise that she arrived last at the flag. At least she wasn't panting too much, which would have been quite embarrassing. She really was out of shape. "So, where do you propose we start searching? It could be anywhere here for all I know." Not that she knew much about criminal activities, to begin with, and the trail she had followed ended right here. She then looked around. Below them lay Lake Rhea, a beautiful sight on about any day of the year. The cliffs that surrounded it sometimes fell and allowed sight to what lay beyond them. On the opposite side, a chain of mountains could be seen in the distance. That was too far though. The thief would probably be more close to the city itself. That's when Dara noticed the tree line on the right. It wasn't enough trees to call it a forest in a general kind of saying, but enough to call it one for Koruna standards. "What about this forest down there? One could hide treasures in the trees, right?" This was hardly an original thought and she doubted that she was the first one to think of it. But it was something at least. In the presence of two trained soldiers, a master thief and this clever looking mare, Dara felt like the weakest part of the chain, so contribution in any way, shape or form was crucial.

Evie | Scout (Verensa herd)
The whole team had short afterd joined Evie at the little flag, just after Axel did. When Cougar came, she send him a smile. She was glad that there was someone else more rebellious and carefree like her in the group. Otherwise it was going to be a really boring trip. The mare from the city spoke up. "What about this forest down there? One could hide treasures in the trees, right?" she said. Evie had to agree. "Quick thinking. The thief is somewhere close. If they are hiding their stuff somewhere around here, it should be somewhere where people can not see it. Most of the area around the lake look is empty. It would be much easier to find if somebody was walking around the lake. But surrounded by trees, it will be much harder to spot", Evie said, while looking at the trees. She turned her head to the group. "Right now, it is the only lead we have". She did not want to take a further discussion about it and she moved her body in the direction of the trees. "If you can find any tracks or whatever, I might be able to track it down. So keep your eyes open!"

Cougar | Thief
Upon reaching the flag Cougar had gone right to the edge of the cliff. He glanced down at the sheer drop to the water below, it was times like these he half believed he could fly. With the wind ticking his neck the drop was almost beckoning. Rather than having a sensible fear of heights the buckskin stallion absolutely loved them, he was especially fond of the rush of adrenaline that came with standing at the edge of oblivion. Cougar's attention shifted back to the others as they discussed the possibility that the thief could be stashing their loot amid the trees. He surveyed the trees in question, they were pretty spars but could offer a bit of cover. "It's as good a place as any to start searching." He agreed then added with a touch of superiority. "Though my money is on some hidden cave along these cliffs. Either way you can bet the place won't be easily accessible to most."
As the group moved in the direction of the trees Cougar allowed himself to hang back a little so he ended up next to Evie. He returned her smile. "You're a tracker? Cool! Must be an handy skill to have out in the wilderness. If our thief is accustomed to working in the city he might not even think of covering his tracks out here." He glanced over at the cloaked grey mare. He was tempted to ask her where she came from and what she did for a living. But he decided against it, he considered it no business of his to pry into other's lives.

Axel | Soldier
Axel listened while everyone spoke, the only reason he was on this trip was because he was a soldier and it was his duty to help protect the city in any way possible even if it meant leaving the city walls to catch a thief. For now he kept quite and towards the back of the group, letting the grey mare take the lead. As he walked behind them he kept his eye out for any tracks or sign of a possible thief, he began thinking about possibilities of the cliffs when something caught his eye not too far off in the distance. Hoping that no one had seen it yet he spoke up from where he was in the group, "Not sure if its from the thief or not but I'm sure its worth taking a look at. Up ahead on the right their's something brightly colored on a branch and there looks like a few partial tracks are a little further up from there." Having a tracker in the group would be helpful, though he tried his skills weren't as top notch as he would like, he was however great at observing things out of the ordinary and analyzing behaviors of others. Axel kept his head held high although he was starting to tire of this trip and really wished that they could just find this thief and get on their way.
