Dara Morcos | housewife [NPC]
It took a little since the path down to the lake's shore was steep and especially in her dress, Dara was hindered in her movements, which caused them to fall into a rather slow pace. When finally down on the shore, the trees looked much farther away than they had from the cliff's top. The mare frowned. Hopefully, that wasn't too far. While she had planned to find the brooch, she had not planned to stay out until after dark. Her husband would scold her again if she did that. But when worst came to worst she could always ask one of the two soldiers to accompany her back home. When Axel pointed something out, the grey mare squinted her eyes to spot what the stallion had seen. Having been in thoughts of the way home already, Dara hadn't noticed that they had come quite a lot closer to the treeline already at a much faster pace than she had anticipated. The brightly coloured thing Axel had spoken of was in a mostly dead looking tree. The mare couldn't make out what it was at first, but as they got closer, she saw that it was some sort of fabric. An edge of it shone in an emerald green with a banner on it that Dara recognised as the emblem of Belrador. Of course. "That looks like one of those unity flags that were sold on the Equinox Festival last moon." Dara pointed out. Those flags, that depicted all emblems of all cities of Koruna, with the Korunian emblem and colours in the middle, had been very popular indeed. She even had bought one herself and hung it on the wall over her bed, so that she could pray to it before going to sleep each night. Maybe someone had lost it while taking a stroll on the cliffs, a tourist most likely, and the wind had carried it here. coincidence or not, upon getting even closer, Dara noticed something else. A shimmer? She looked closer and saw some shimmering fabric, just a little of it, at the side of the flag. Something seemed to have been neatly ripped off there. Since she knew how the whole flag looked like, she instantly knew what was missing. "The emblem of Nemris is gone." She pointed out. It was odd that just the silver fabric of Nemris would be gone while the other emblems were still intact and looked almost as good as new. Anyway, she doubted that the mystery of this flag would help them much. These things had been available en masse at the festival after all, so why would someone steal it? It didn't make sense. The grey mare continued and searched the ground for clues in concentration. There was nothing on the ground that would be a lead though, just sticks, stones, some grass and the fruit that had fallen from the trees. The more they searched, the more frustrated Dara grew. The thief probably had found a cave after since there was absolutely nothing here. She was about to give up when she tripped over a root and fell into a bush. "By Cynfor!" She exclaimed in surprise and immediately spoke a prayer to sanctify her sin of using Cynfor's name in vain. When she got to her hooves again, she found herself at the entry of a very well hidden cave. So there is a cave after all! she thought. "I have found a cave!" She said to alert the others of her new position since the branches of the orange tree were mostly hiding her and also the cave.

Evie | Scout (Verensa herd)
Cougar came sauntering up nect to Evie. "You're a tracker? Cool! Must be an handy skill to have out in the wilderness. If our thief is accustomed to working in the city he might not even think of covering his tracks out here." he said, smiling. She could not help but to smile back. "Really, it is simple magic. I started studying way back when I was just a kid" she said. It was always easier to lie when part of it was true. She had a much more northen accent. They would probaly all think she was from Nordberg! "And yeah, it is handy very often". Evie took a moment to look at the lake. It was beautiful. Axel suddenly pointed out something colorfull he saw in some branches. "Nice spotted" she said, and the whole ggroup walked over there. "That looks like one of those unity flags that were sold on the Equinox Festival last moon." Evie did not understand at first, but she she remembered. She had beem in the city for a little more than a month, she had arrived just in time for the big festival. There was no way she was gonna miss it! She had also seen these flags a lot of places. "The emblem of Nemris is gone." Dara pointed out. And it was true. All the cities of Koruna was missing. For a short moment she thought of her exam. She had to memorize all of them. "Yeah, you are right. Whoever took this, only wanted the silver part. Weird" she said. Like an magpie, she thought. Evie look ed at the pretty flag and she made a spell. The thief must have left some kind of track after them. The spell lead to.. a bush? And just as she realized that, the housewife fell right into it. Evie laughed, but quickly stopped herself again. "I have found a cave!" she said, still with the head in the bush. Evie tried hard again not to laugh. "Great!" she said, and with magic moved the bush and branches to the sides. And just as she had said, and cave showed up.

Cougar | Thief
The discovery of the unity flag was lost on Cougar, he had moved closer to the lake and had started skipping stones across its surface. A unity flag out here meant nothing, those things had practically littered the streets for weeks. The fact that one of the emblems was gone could mean something, or it could just as easily not. Only when the mare, Dara, started yelling something about a cave did Cougar's attention return to the task they had set out to do. "See, told you we'd find a cave. Any respectable thief knows caves are the prime hideout spot." Due to the fact that he had been of little use, Cougar felt he needed to push home the fact that he had predicted the bit about the cave. Couldn't have the other's thinking he was completely useless now could he? Hardly concealing his eagerness the buckskin stallion squeezed between the bushes as Evie parted them. As he ducked inside he looked around expecting heaps of glittering gold and jewels... and was disappointed. For the most part the inside looked like a typical desert cave, the floor strewn with dust and peddles. Cougar's ears twitched at the sounds of the companies' hooves as they crunched on the gravel and echoed off the walls, unless their mystery thief was sound asleep or deaf then there was a good chance their entry had already been detected. Unless of course the thief wasn't home at the moment. Cougar moved a littler further into the cave allowing room for the others to move further in. He was still holding out on finding a rich hoard of treasure as the cave appeared to recede quite a ways into the earth. The buckskin peered into the darkness then glanced back at the others. "Hmmm don't suppose anyone thought to bring a light with them?"

Axel | Soldier
At Cougar's question Axel made his way to the front of the group and conjured up a flame so they could see as they walked, the one advantage to being a fire mage. Quietly he watched as they walked further into the earth, looking for any sign of something. Much to his disliking the further they went into the cave the more he had to hunch over when he walked, the one disadvantage to being decently tall. While there was still a fair amount of width for passing Axel stopped and spoke, "I would suggest that if you want to see anything and you're shorter than me, get your rumps up here and look ahead. I may be able to keep a light for you, but I'm not going to be much help when it comes to the height of this cavern the further in we go."

Dara Morcos | housewife [NPC]
As the group descended deeper into the cave, Dara felt a sense of excitement about it all. Her usual daily life revolved around doing the housework, going to the market to shop, washing the laundry in the river while chatting with her neighbours who did the same and sometimes, when she felt like getting a thrill out of her day, she went to the arena to watch a mage fight. She secretly was a huge fan of those, even though she knew her husband didn't think very highly of them. This was the most adventurous thing in her life so far. Going into an unexplored cave to possibly catch a wanted thief? That was most definitely something new. She was glad that Axel was a fire mage since the light definitely helped a lot. When the soldier suddenly stopped, Dara almost ran into him. But just almost. She thought about what he said. When it came to seeing in the dark, she was a lost cause, but she was definitely smaller than him and didn't want the adventure to end just yet. "I'll go ahead and see if I can spot anything worth noting." She therefore said and carefully squeezed past the grey stallion to walk ahead. She had barely walked ten meters when she noticed that the ceiling started to get higher and the passageway became wider too. "Don't worry Axel, you'll be able to walk here just fine." She called back. When she continued then, she started to notice a light. Blueish light, not the warm, orange light of a flame. There seemed to be sunlight up ahead. Had they somehow walked below the entire cliff and were now getting out on the other side? What an utter disappointment! But Dara's spirits were lifted once again when she got nearer to the light and saw, that it was a hall and not an exit. The light seemed to come from the ceiling and she also heard water. Wehn the tunnel merged with the bigger room, the grey mare was momentarily blinded by the bright light. Once her eyes recovered she realised, that they must have found some sort of ancient temple. There were pillars with foreign symbols on them that stretched all the way to the ceiling and a set of old, broken stone stairs, that led up to the source where the light was coming from: a hole in the ceiling. Dara, excited to have found something so special, carefully hurried up the stairs and found the source of the water noise. A well, that seemed to be connected to some underground spring rippled joyfully along. The light that fell on it, threw rainbow-coloured dancing patterns on the brown stone walls and the pillars. It was beautiful. But the most beautiful thing was not the well, not the pillars, but a tree that was also engulfed in the light from above. The tree was a kind Dara was not familiar with and it looked as ancient as the whole cave, despite it not being very big. On its branches, that sprouted orange-red leaves, hung hundreds of glittering objects. Most not worth noting, like a well-polished nail, a pair of scissors, or other glittering household tools. Other things were more worth noting: a marriage crown with a crystal in it, a necklace with an expensive looking pendant, golden earrings and several other things that were probably of high value. The mare also noticed the ripped out emblem of Nemris hanging over one of the branches. The other things, that couldn't hang on their own, had been fixated on the tree with a silver strong. It was as if someone had tried to celebrate Winter's Eve early and used questionable things to decorate a questionable tree. But one couldn't argue that, despite it being ridiculous, looked quite pretty with all those things reflecting in the sunlight. At the very top of the tree, the shimmering was the brightest. Made out of twigs and a lot of shiny string and wool, a nest stood. Its occupant seemed to currently be absent, but it still made the case quite clear: Their thief was a bird and most definitely a very unusual one.

Evie | Scout (Verensa herd)
Damn caves, Evie thought. As most air mages, she did not like caves, she felt trapped, and tunnels was even worse. There was only backward and forwards. She mumbled and quietly cursed for herself. She did not wan to be the one to turn around, she she just kept going. "I'll go ahead and see if I can spot anything worth noting." Dara said. It did not take her long before she already spoke back. "Don't worry Axel, you'll be able to walk here just fine." Evie got curious and walked past Axel too, and she followed up with Dara. She found her, standing in what turned out to be a much bigger room. "Wow" Evie just said, as she stepped into it. There was a ringing sound of water, and some bly light was coming from above too, but most remarkable was the tree. All kinds of shinging things was hanging from it, and the closer they Evie came, she started to realize what was hanging from it. All kind of weird stuff. And on the very top, what seemed to be some kind of nest. "Well, there we have the thief." she turned around to Axel and Cougar. "Apparently, we have been following some kind of magpie!" she said, joking. She walked closer to the tree and looked at all the weird things hanging there. With magic, she wanted to find out, if there was anything on the tree she had been in contact with before. And then something cought her interest. The earing! she thought. And it was. From the tree, the very same earing that Evie had bought earlier, was hangig there. "You son of a... this earing, it's mine!" she said. Evie was not a master of sharp winds, she was still learning, but it did not take much just to make enough to cut a little string. and so she did, and the earing fell down, and Evie grabbed it.

Cougar | Thief
Cougar followed Evie into the cavern, the columns and skylight spoke of ancient and masterful architecture. And the symbols on the columns spoke of a mystery waiting to be solved. But the buckskin only had eyes for the tree, more specifically the shinny expensive things hanging from it, just beckoning him. It was about as close to a pile of treasure as he could have hoped for. He moved closer raising an eye at several of the items fixed to the branches: metal scissors, tools and pins. Aside from being eye catching many of these items were practically worthless. "You're right Evie, looks like whoever our thief is they are mainly interested in the shiniest objects, not in the worth." He picked the pair of scissors off the tree to demonstrate his point, and as he replaced them he snagged a particularly tantalizing diamond necklace. After tucking it away under his shabby cloak he cast a glance around at the others, wondering if the'd caught him. It didn't really matter either way. After all it wasn't stealing if you stole from a thief.
The buckskin gazed up at the nest and wondered just what kind of bird had made it and collected all these trinkets. Perhaps if they waited here a bit they might catch a glimpse of their elusive thief? He took several more moments to search the tree at its glittering adornments. "I can't see the brooch but it could be stashed away in that nest up there."

Evie | Scout (Verensa herd)
Evie grabbed the earing and put it in her little bag. She was glad she had found it again, Taylor was going to love it. Evie could not wait ti get home and tell the whole story of all this. The thief, the cave, the tree and all of it. They had found the thiefs hideout, now, they just needed the thief. With Cougar, she walked around the tree, and hoped they would find the brooch, but it was nowhere to be found. "I can't see the brooch but it could be stashed away in that nest up there." Cougar said. Evie looked up at the weird nest. It was high up, but not to bad for her. "Have you ever seen some of those tree-climbing goats?" she asked, while she turned her head ot the others. She had herself, it looked funny, and she had once been told, she looked like one of those. "Watch this" Evie said with a grin, and she jumped up the nearst branch. It was way to high for a normal person to get to with just jumping, but with her air magic and telekinesis, it was no problem. And just as she expected, she looked absolutely ridiculous. She made one more jump, and landed on a branch just next to the nest, and looked in it, hoping to find something. Anything.

Cougar | Thief
"What are you plann- Oh." Cougar watched with open mouth as Evie climbed into the tree and maneuvered from branch to branch. The buckskin laughed, he couldn't help it. Seeing her up in the tree looked so out of place it was almost ridiculous. Along with being enormously amused, he was also slightly impressed. Cougar was incredibly agile, had to be to scale rooftops and sneak in through high windows, but even with his climbing skills he'd think twice before attempting to climb a tree. Luckily for him there where few large trees around Monabur so it wasn't a skill he particularly needed. Still suppressing a giggle the buckskin thief called up to Evie as she peered into the nest. "See anything?" His mind returned to the stolen brooch, if they did find it he was going to have to think of a clever way to nab it from the others and reap all that reward money for himself. Sure sharing the reward was better than nothing but having all the money to himself was even better.

Sorry for the horribly long break. Real life got heavily in the way but I had my last exam yesterday and so I'm ready to continue these in full swing now. ;W; Got struck by inspiration while considering some plot points in the comic and some background things that will not appear in it. What follows is exactly that. It doesn't sway from the plot very much, so don't worry. It's just a little add-on I threw in. c;
Dara Morcos | housewife [NPC] While Dara watched the grey mare climb the tree like a cat would, she quickly found her attention to go elsewhere. To a rock most specifically. She hadn’t paid it any mind before, thinking it just to be a part of the cave, but now that she regarded it with more detail, she saw words engraved upon it. She was even more surprised when she found she could read them. Usually, the writings of the old ones were indecipherable, making even skilled archaeologists struggle. This writing, however, was recent and so clear that a misunderstanding was out of the question.
Here lies Orion † 26th Simivisonios 802 a.w. A husband and father You are greatly missed A life taken unjustified by a desperate king May the gods watch over your soul and guide it to find peace I am sorry I could not save you in time
A grave stone. This was a grave. The name and date sounded similar and Dara searched in her mind to remember who this person had been. And why was he buried here in a hidden cave? Then, she suddenly remembered. The 26th Simivisonios in the year 802 had been the fifth day after the prince’s death and also the day where a Caspana, that had been caught, was executed. It had also been the day on which the princess had visited their humble home and offered her son Rylon a place in her personal military out of the blue. It was truly a day to remember, especially for the Morcos family. The public had never learned the Caspana’s name, for not even the king had heard it. The princess, for some reason, knew it though and so Dara had heard Rylon uttering it too once. It had been Orion, hadn’t it? Regardless of if this really was his name or not, the words on the gravestone fit the situation from all those years ago. But who would know enough of this wicked creature or even care enough to give him the honour of a grave? Dara looked up beyond the grave stone to see several similar stones rise up behind it. Having grown curious, she walked around, reading the texts on them. They were all fairly similar, with just the names, dates and the first line varying. And always, on every grave stone, at the very bottom was this small line, barely decipherable: "I am sorry I could not save you in time" Who in their right mind would want to save a Caspana!? Surely it must be a Caspana too! Yes, that made sense. The names, the dates, the personal information. It fit. A Caspana must be in Monabur, or live around Monabur and tend to these graves in honour of their fallen fellows. The thought alone made a shiver run down her spine and let her fur stand on end. A Caspana so near to the city!? She would tell Rylon about it, so he could go straight to the princess with this information! Her heart beating fast with panic, she made a few steps back, ignoring the tree, the treasures and the others for the time being. She only stopped when she, in her haste to distance herself from the graves, accidently bumped into Cougar. She didn’t apologize though but just kept staring wide-eyed at the graves. There were so many. One for each Caspana that had been executed in the last five years. “Blasphemous”, she said quietly with a shaking voice. “They killed a child. Who would honour such beings?”, she added in an even quieter tone. Dara wasn’t a weak-minded woman, mind you, but there were times where even she felt the need to faint. This was one of those times. And so, she did.
[post #9 | 627 words] The ones who read "The Fae Prince" chapter 16 ("Guilty Without Trial") are at a clear advantage here. But you don't have to read it to understand it. Basically, Orion was the first Caspana to be found and executed after the prince's death on Summer Solstice in the year 802. While his name has never become known in Monabur and everyone just remembers him as "the first beast that has been slain", the Verensa Herd remembers Orion with great sorrow. His name is known and his death has caused not little Verensa Herd members to grow downright hostile towards people in Monabur, or even towards people in general. Evie will recognize the name and date on Orion's grave stone and maybe even some other names and dates on other grave stones (I have no stories set for those, be free to invent your own names and dates!). Also congratulations Evie, you are the very first Caspana to stumble upon this graveyard (the first alive Caspana anyway).

Axel Cade (Soldier)
Axel followed the mare and looked at all the graves himself. The dates made sense, linked to events that had happened in the past five years where a Caspana was captured and killed. He sighed as he looked, they were people just like himself and didn't deserve to die as they did, at least he didn't think so. Just because something happened didn't mean it was always the fault of Caspana, it could have been a very skilled mage in the city for all they knew, but when a Caspana was caught it was assumed it was their fault. He stood and watched as the mare backed away in shock and spoke, he snorted and pinned his ears as he watched her faint. He'd been in a decent mood until this point and he wasn't just going to let this go. "Leave her, she'll be fine. I will hear nothing else about any of these or you'll be answering to me, they were people just as we were and deserved to be laid to rest somewhere. Cougar don't go getting any ideas, I won't regret dragging your ass to a cell." He didn't really know why it bothered him so much what Dara had said but it did. This wasn't much different than how his family honored their fallen in the city, they had the courtyard with the statue, around the base plates inscribed with the names of the fallen had been placed. That was how he honored his fallen, this was how someone or somepeople honored theirs. He turned back to Evie in the tree "Any signs of anything or something that would be helpful in finding this thing?" He stood off to the side away from the graves and not too far from Dara giving her a cold glare, just because she was upper class didn't mean he was going to give her any special treatment or let her get away with anything. Once she was functioning again he looked at her and spoke, "Not another word of Caspanas while in my presence, its hard enough to do my job as it is without having people go behind my back thinking they can do a better job for me. I will say something to the superiors when we get back, unless what you say has to deal with finding this brooch keep your mouth shut." He growled as he spoke, his voice cold and taking on a deadly edge. He'd been pretty quiet until this point mostly because he wasn't sure if he could keep his attitude in check but he was on the verge of losing it at this point. Yes he dealt with people on a day to day basis, but this was proving to be a bit much after the several days he spent on gate duty and he wasn't in the mood to deal with crap like this. He knew Clayton trusted him and sometimes managed to calm him down, but this was a bit different somehow.

Evie | Scout (Verensa Herd)
"See anything?" Evie could hear Courgar say from below. There was a lot of things in the nest. Many shiny things, almost like this creature had kept the best of the best up here. She looked around in it. With so many shiny things, it was hard to tell all them apart, but in the end she found it. "Yep, it's here." Evie said to Cougar, as the last thing before she jumped down with the brooch. "Now what was it you said..."It takes a thief to catch a good thief." Is that not what you said early this day Cougar?" Evie asked sarcastic and teasing with a grin. She looked like she was glad about the fact she had found it first.
"Now what is all this about over here?" Evie said and she walked over to the stones everyone was so interested in. For some reason, Dara backed away just as Evie came closer. What has she seen? Evie turned her head around from the scared woman to the stone, and read what it said. Here lies Orion. Evie was hit with a wave of surprize and sadness when she realized who this grave belonged to. Evie had been around 7 when everyone was talking about Orion, the first caspana to be executed in Monabur, and some of the others that had followed. She looked up and surprize. With her good sight, she could read the others as well from here. Here lies Pierce, loved grandfather and man. Here rests Elena. Here lies Warren, loved son. His life was taken from him too early. Those was just the ones she could see from where she was standing. She could remember every one of the names and dates. Evie was standing surrounded by the graves of her people. The people that would maybe never gain their Justice. The people which graves had to be underground and hidden away from the sunlight. She realized no one had been talking about this place. They don't know about this... she thought. She looked back at Orion's grave. Their families, they don't know their loved ones is... here... They- The sound of a body falling to the ground threw Evie out of her thoughts. She turned around to find Dara on the ground. Shit, that's right, they are here! Evie had let her guard down. The graves had made her emotional and sensitive . This could not allow that to happen again. She could not show them she had sympathy for the people laying here. She had to force herself to act like she did not care, no matter how much se would hate herself for doing so. "Any signs of anything or something that would be helpful in finding this thing?" Axel said. He said something before, but she had been too deep in her thoughts to hear what he said. "I found it in the nest, it is here." Evie said, and gave it to him. Keep an eye on it, we do have a thief with us here after all, she said to him telepathically. She knew he could not use magic, and had no way to say anything back without the others hearing it, but she did not feel the need to hear an answer anyway. "I am gonna explore this little shithole a bit. I've been to a lot of caves, but this one also has something odd about it." Evie said, as she already strted looking at all the graves. When we leave this place, there is no way telling what will happen here, it might be full of guards the next time a caspana comes here. It will probaly not be safe for anyone to come here. I might be the first and last living caspana to see this. I need to remeber as much as possible about this place. Maybe, I can show it to the families with telekinesis... they may never be able to see this place for themself...
