Santugan Objective All around town, things disappear and reappear in mysterious holes in the ground near the city walls. The mindless disappearance of precious or not so precious belongings cannot continue like this, so a group of random people, connected by their annoyance of the situation, gets together to investigate and if needed terminate the source of this nonsense. The search leads them to the caves under Santugan. What will they find there?

Theo | Magician/Thief [NPC]
The disappearance of certain things and the reappearance of them in holes certainly had been an amusing thing for the past few weeks for Theo the demon lynx. At first, he had thought it to be an act of mockery to the art of illusionists like him, then he had taken it as a good prank, but now, that one of his own belongings had met such a cruel fate, he didn’t find amusement in it anymore. And it had not been an object of small value either. The deck of cards was claw crafted by a gryphon from the North Lands and it had taken him a lot of work to steal them. He needed them for his magic tricks and without them, his income would decrease steadily. He was not willing to let this just go by easily. To his luck, the annoyance of the people was a common one, so that he blended in with them nicely and quickly found some fellow sufferers. And all of them were as determined as he was to find not only their lost belongings before someone else did, but also the thief that had dared to steal them. »So, my ladies, what has been your unfortunate loss in this situation?« Theo asked a group of mares with interest.

Kamaria | Thief
Normally Kamaria wouldn't have noticed the rich complaining about their missing possessions. It was her job to make sure that some possessions disappeared, after all, and Santugan was a city known for it's high crime rates. But when the lower class citizens all began to complain of missing objects, or both monetary and personal value, she began to wonder. No thieves that she know off stole from anyone lower than middle class. It generally wasn't worth their time, and besides, they weren't monsters. It was one of those things that was part of the unspoken code that the criminals of the city shared. Do what you want with the rich, but don't bring those already at the bottom lower. However, this still wasn't enough to warrant her personal participation in the manhunt. But she herself had been robbed just two nights before. When she returned to her home, an abandonned building with a clear view of the sky, she told Quill, her raccardi, to fetch her father's star maps, as she usually did. However, when her blotchy companion had come to her empty handed, she had felt a sinking in her stomach. She searched frantically for what she know wasn't there, and slowly came to the realization of what must have happened. Her despair was replaced with anger. How dare this thief steal from her, and steal something of very little monetary value, but of great personal importance? She couldn't allow it! And so she joined in the search party that intended to apprehend the culprit and return their valuables to them. When the demon lynx approached her group, Kamaria avoided eye contact. She had never liked predators, and demon lynxes even less. She couldn't quite put her hoof on why they bothered her so, but she know she didn't trust them. When the demon addressed her, she turned her hard eyes to the ground and tried very hard not to scowl. Her polite upbringing required it. "Star maps," she replied simply.

Eleanor | Independent/Thief It had been a huge relief for Eleanor when she stumbled across two other mares who shared her troubles. She had lost her tattered journal about a week ago and, until she had begun speaking to these savvier equines, she had assumed its misplacement had been solely her fault. Even though a small book wasn't much, it meant to world to the teenager because it was one of the few possessions she still had from before the fire. The idea of having lost it forever had stressed the poor girl to death. And so, when the other mares told her they planned on hunting down the thief, all Eleanor heard was: "You might get your book back." Of course she was going to join them. Eleanor just about leaped out of her skin when Theo spoke. It took all of her might to downplay a loud scream to a sharp squeak as she stumbled sideways. Her eyes only went wider when she turned around and saw the speaker was an off-scouring. She had never really spoken to one before, so her fearful reaction was only natural. Calm down! There's other people here. You're fine. He's fine. Stop being so judgmental! A frown was apparent on her dainty face as she silently scolded herself. Eleanor took in a deep breath, shook her head, and then cast Theo a large smile. "Oh, hello! How are you? Weather's been pretty nice, huh??" She began to babble, overcompensating for the wariness she felt. "I didn't lose much - just my journal-book-thing-a-ma-jig. It's blackish-brown with yellow specks all over it... Painted it myself!" Eleanor added with a giggle and a please smile. She was proud of the fact she had borrowed Valentine's dye to add some "flare" to the journal's mildewing cover. And then, just as quickly, her expression melted to one of concern and empathy. "Did you lose something as well?"

Not here...not here...not here...they're not HERE! Those were the only thoughts running through Camil's head, and it appeared she wasn't the only one searching for things that morning. Anna-Beth had practically torn her shop apart to find her lucky wooden spoon that helped her mix up potions. They had heard the rumors of disappearing items but they thought it was just that, rumors. Or at least just some gang of thieves. If it was a gang of thieves, then they had just made a grave mistake. Forget Anna's wooden spoon, they had stolen some things very precious to Camil; and she was not going to let that go unpunished. So when Theo met her on the street and talked about trying to find the thieves, you bet your Vend she was first to sign up. It didn't take long to find others, and now here they all were. Typical of this town, many annoyed people and barely a handful to try to fix the situation. Though it did give Camil some hope for this poor excuse of a city to see teens step up to the plate. Perhaps with a youth like this, the city wasn't doomed after all. Though that was still highly doubtful, what with the horrid leader and all.
She rolled her eyes and scowled at the young paint, how quaint, a scared teenager. The others had gone in a circle to explain why they were there, so when it was Camil's turn, she only deepened her frown as she couldn't hear the soft clink of her necklaces when she lifted her head. "What was stolen from me matters little to you," she spat, pinning her ears back in annoyance. "Now, are we going to search for a trail or am I wasting my time?" Her one visible eye slid over to the Lynx and narrowed down at him. If he was going to assemble such a group he better have a good idea where the thieves were. Or at least know where they should begin their search.

Theo | Magician/Thief [NPC]
As one of the mares practically jumped out of her skin when he spoke, he just raised an eyebrow in confusion. Has she never seen a demon lynx before? Then again, perhaps that was her first time in the city. Demon lynxes were pretty common in Santugan actually while they counted as offscourings elsewhere. Theo did his best to give her a nice grin to calm her down, though in hind thought the display of his large fangs might not be very comforting after all, so he quickly fell into a simple grin again. As the mare started to talk very quickly and nervously, the demon lynx chuckled to himself a little. As a small mare with a messy mane stepped up, he was not prepared for this amount of grumpy anger. He quickly waved his paw as a try to calm her down. "We certainly are looking for a trail now. I simply wanted to make sure that all of you are sitting in the same boat, so to speak, and do not follow me just to mingle with the Great Theo!" He said the last bit in a slightly dramatic voice and made a pose. He was an illusionist and a trickster. Putting on a show was practically his whole life. He quickly got back to the point, though, since the mare did not want to look like she was messing around and he certainly did not want to test how sharp that sword of hers was. "I followed the trails in the last week and found out with the help of some good friends, that the most objects have been buried near the entrances of the underground caves. To start our search there would make the most sense. Luckily, we are quite close to one that is not watched by guards, so follow me." The dark-blue-furred lynx said and started trotting into an alley that looked anything but trustworthy. Then again, which alley in the slums of Santugan did look trustworthy? He made a turn into a narrow street and then walked into a different alley, which lead to a small plaza, that looked surprisingly well-kept for something that was in the slums. The ground was paved and a generously large well stood in its middle, the top of it covered with wooden planks. "Here we are. This well is an entrance that leads to one of the underground lakes. It's one of the sources of water for the people here in the slums and as much as I can guess, the lake's shores are quite well for digging holes. Our lost possessions are probably down there." He said as the pushed the planks off the well, which revealed not a hole like in a normal well, but a staircase that lead down to something blue glowing. "Some mages have been nice enough to get some of those crystals and enchant them so that there is light down there. So don't be shy, my ladies and just step down there. I'll go last to cover the well again." Theo said and pointed at the wooden planks. Then he gave an encouraging nod to the well while looking at the three mares.

Kamaria | Thief
Kamaria raised her eyebrows at the grumpy mare. She glanced at her sword and then at her face, largely unimpressed. Certainly, she would lose to this mare in a sword fight, but the chestnut mare had dealt with worse in the city before. She had been running from guards at sparring with street urchins for years now, so she didn't scare easily. The young mare concerned her more. Clearly she was terrified of the predator, and probably anything else that moved. Spooky little thing. She'd probably be no good in a confrontation, and would require protection. When the lynx moved off, Kamaria followed him. She was familiar with the area, so she knew the way as well, but she allowed the lynx to lead. She'd rather he was somewhere where she could easily see him than anything else. The Great Theo, she thought, what an ego. She ignored his explanation of the well for the most part. She had been born here, and already knew this information, though she could see how it might be interesting to the others. When he pulled the planks away, she stepped down onto the stair first, descending into the blue glow.

Despite visiting Santugan for almost two years now, Camil didn't know much about the underground lakes. Ignoring the previous glances, most at her sword, she listened to "The Great Theo" explain the lakes. She made a mental note to read more about them, they would be useful for certain jobs... A thick brow lifted when the red teenager confidently walked down into the hole, Ah, a local. Well, at least she will be the first to tell me if there is an ambush or not with the amount of noise she might make.
Camil waited a beat or two before following. She had to be careful where she placed her footing as the stairs looked like they were going to fall apart. Luckily, despite their appearance, they were steady. When she reached the bottom it still took a moment for her eyes to adjust even with the glowing crystals, but when her eyes adjusted she looked around. The water system was to her right, and ahead of her, the tunnels deepened with soft blue glowing crystals gently lighting the way. I wonder... she thought to herself, picking out a crystal from a wall to study it. Ignoring the teenager beside her, but still being aware of where she was. She was raised in Santugan after all, and while Camil doubt she'd cause any trouble, it was better to be safe than sorry.

Theo | Magician/Thief [NPC]
As all the mares had entered the well, Theo picked up the wooden planks and laid them on the entrance after going down the stairs backwards himself. "Rumours say the things are buried here, but that doesn't mean that they will be easy to find, so I suggest we start searching." The demon lynx stated the obvious and started looking closely at the ground. He didn't notice anything in particular until he saw a movement in a dark corner. He raised his head and pounced, sneaking closer to whoever it was. It had been a small being, maybe even an animal. When he was just a few meters away, the creature bolted out of the corner, ran into the blue light of the crystals and disappeared behind a corner. While running, something blue and purple had glistered behind it, like it was carrying something. The creature was probably some sort of jewel thief. Was it in the end even this creature that had caused all this? No, it couldn't be. One small creature couldn't possibly steal that many things. If it really was involved, then it either was just one part of the puzzle, or there were more of it. Well, it didn't hurt to try. "After it!" Theo said and already started to pursue the little creature.

Kamaria | Thief
Kamaria had been looking over the water of the underground lake, admiring its beauty in the light of the crystals. She loved being in the wells. It was usually quite peaceful. She was pulled from her thoughts when she caught a flash of movement out to the corner of her eye. She looked closer and narrowed her purple eyes. The creature that had also apparently caught Theo's attention was clearly carrying something, and it's shape was familiar to her. If she was right, she might just know who, or at least what, this thing was. But the glowing, shifting darkness could play tricks on you if you weren't careful. It wasn't wise to completely trust your eyes down here. Still, the red dun mare gave chase, following the fleet little critter. It wove it's way around the stony shore line, darting in and out of sight as it went. This gave it an advantage over the larger creatures, but a thief is as agile as she is fleet. Kamaria was sure she could catch this creature.

A thick brow lifted when the Demon Lynx bounced and seemed to be stalking something. Felines... she dismissed with a roll of her eyes. A slight movement from the shadows caught her attention, and the teenager as well it seemed. Camil's eyes narrowed, something caught in the light...something blue...and...purple. "AFTER I-" "MOVE IT!" Camil roared while bolting before Theo could even finish his sentence. She sprinted after the creature, who just seemed to be slightly quicker than she was. She may not have the speed but her years of traveling certainly gave her the stamina to match. Ignoring the somewhat slippery, rocky, uneven ground as her thoughts were on nothing but the creature ahead. The crystals ahead seemed to be playing tricks on them, this creature clearly knew the tunnels better than them. Dodging light as much as possible so not to be seen. Rather this was the suspect in all the other disappearances mattered little to her, it had her things and she would get them back. Even if that meant prying them from its corpse.

Theo | Magician/Thief [NPC]
When the demon lynx had just started to pursue the small creature, the mare with the messy mane had rushed past him in a wave of seemingly newfound rage. Perhaps what the creature carried belonged to her? In any case, it would hopefully lead them right to the place where all the stolen items were. If there was such a place, to begin with. Theo hoped so since otherwise, he'd have to find a new lead to get his precious deck of cards back. Eventually, the cave ended in a bigger cave "hall". Despite its size, it seemed to be a dead end. The creature had stopped at what seemed to be a little niche in the cave's wall. It didn't look like the creature had dug it, but that it was naturally shaped so, a curved stone that could be seen as a roof. Below it was a nest with four eggs and a freshly hatched youngling in it that called for its mother. The creature opened her beak and let the two necklaces fall at the edge of the nest to go and comfort her child. Since this cave did not hold any water, the walls also were not covered with crystals, so probably only the feline, with his natural night-sight, could see the scene in front of them. To change that, he rummaged around in his cloak and pulled out a crystal that could be activated by a simple tap on it with his paw after he placed it on the ground. A little thing he had found to be quite useful when he was in the company of less fortunate ones. While it didn't illuminate the entire cave, it at least let the nest and the creatures be visible, as well as the stolen necklaces. The creature was unlike any Theo had ever seen. With feet like the thick claws of an owl, a body like a canine, but feathered and a head also like a canine with pointy ears, but a brown beak as its snout. He had no idea what it could be. Its eyes were of only one colour and glowed in the shine of the crystal. When it noticed the suddenly light and its visitors, the mother creature's eyes turned a threatening red and she hissed. With a size not bigger than a housecat, this did not seem very threatening though.

Kamaria | Thief
Kamaria slid to a stop at the dark opening. She squinted her eyes, but knew it was useless. There was no truer darkness than that which could be found underground. She was grateful when the lynx pulled out the crystal and illuminated the cave, even if she was startled by its contents. This creature was definitely not what she had thought it had been in the darkness by the lake. Frankly, she didn't really know what to make of it. But clearly they had found their thief, as evidenced by the necklaces, but what it could possibly need any of these things for was beyond her. She didn't see her star charts yet, but she was sure they were around here somewhere. "What in the name of the gods is it?" she asked. When the creature hissed at the group, Kamaria raised her head a little and frowned. Though the creature didn't frighten her, she didn't think they should be quite so close to its young ones. They were obviously distressing it, and they might as well give it space while they discussed a plan of action. "Perhaps we should take a step back from her."

"Perhaps we should take a step back from her."
"However,"Camil started, eyeing the eggs, "I did miss breakfast..." The creature seemed to have understood her and hissed at her, taking a step around her eggs. Camil's brows furrowed and her lip curled up as if to give a snarl back, glancing at the two objects that laid near the edge of the nest and prayed the...child wouldn't take notice of them. She didn't know what those creatures were, but they seemed familiar. Perhaps she read about them somewhere, or something like them? Had to be something like them, there was no way she would forget a creature like this. If this had been a different circumstance, she would have liked to study them; but all she wanted to do now was grab what was hers and be on her way. She still had to pack for her leaving of Santugan and didn't appreciate being delayed.
A small cracking sound was heard behind the trio as two glowing crystals floated up towards her. Her eyes slid to Kamaria, "Make yourself of use," Camil grunted as she handed over a crystal. "You are correct on wishing to calm the...parent." Looking around the cave would help ease that desire to kill the damned thing...hopefully.
Camil held the glowing crystal above her as she eyed the room. Which was littered with what the creature had stolen, but when she stepped closer to inspect something that caught her eye, the creature hissed again and made a noise Camil had never heard but certainly wouldn't forget. Her ears flung back at the sudden sound, it wasn't horrifying but it certainly wasn't pleasant. The creature flexed its talons and snarled, ears back and seemed ready to bounce. In one quick movement, a sword was drawn and the creature and the mare stared down each other. The child made some sort of noise and the creature gave up the match, but not before giving another snarl before checking its newborn. "Careful what you advance," she huffed through the bandaged handle. "It seems to like its trijets..." wetting her lips as she eyed one of the eggs.
