After admiring the tree, Evie got a drink as well. Evie was better at training magic than the physical things, but even she had to admit, there was something nice about running in the morning sun. Because of that, she was probably more exhausted than Ellie, as she was much more used to running after all. The sun had not been up long enough to warm the water, so it was still night-cold. She drank a lot of it while she also admired the clearness of the water. As a crystal, she thought. When Evie raised her head, her mane on her head felt heavier from the water. It had gotten wet and was now dripping. Ugh, I will probably have to cut it soon, she thought. Because the water was so clear, she saw her reflection, which she had not seen in a while, not counting yeasterday. Or maybe not... she thought, and looked at the driping mane. She shook her head and headed with Ellie under the willow tree. "This looks like the perfect reading place," Evie replied.

Ellie grinned as she ducked into the the willows branches. "It really is, come see inside." She walked over to a pair of larger partially exposed roots that she had put moss and soft grass between."I usually lay here to read, or write. Eric has had me copy maps and things for like that for practice." She checked in a crevice and grinned. "You know how I said I was out here a week ago? Well I left a bag of snacks out here. Surprisingly enough no critters go them. Here I've got some jerky and a dried fruit and nut mix. Any preference?"

"What a luck no one took them!" Evie said, which really was a kind of miracle. "And Jerky I guess," she replied for her question. As soon as Evie "indside" the little room the willow's hanging branches made, she threw herself on the ground and laid on her back. She had to move a litle bit around so that she could find an angle where the sun did not blind her. "Does your family ever come here?"Evie asked, It seemed like the perfect hideout when Ellie wanted to be alone. Do Ellie even need that kind of hideout from her family? Evie thought.

Ellie grinned and gently tossed the pouch of jerky towards Evie, using a gust of wind to catch it and lower it to the ground beside Evie. She tossed a hunk of dried apple up and caught it in her mouth as it came down. "I've brought my sisters with me before and my parents have been out once so they know where it is if they need me for something. Dotty likes to come out with me pretty often, but Mattie has her own friends and hangs out with them most of the time." She stretched and laid down. "I'm not looking forward to moving though. My parents like to travel and move every year or so, we'll probably move end of winter."

(I was so busy this weekend, I am sorry I am so slow again!)
Evie took the jerky next to her and started to chew on it. It was nice to eat something besides grass. The meat reminded her of summer camp, andher early days as a caspana. For some reason when she had not had meat in a while, she thought about that time. She still hated hunting. "My family dosn't really travel like that. We spend most of our time the same place, and then.. 'visit' - I guess you could call it - other places in Derenta. Like what we are doing now. Anyway, do you know where you will be heading?"

Ellie shrugged slightly. "No clue where we are headed, just that we are going the beginning of spring." She lay down and rolled scratching her back some before sprawling on her side. "My mother is a scout through and through, she can't stand being in one place too long. We move around a lot, I don't recall a time that we stayed some place longer than two years." She looked up at the willow branches. "I've found dozen of places like this only to leave them behind." She sighed quietly. "I'll miss this place, but I get to look for a new hideaway when we get where we are going." She tried to sound excited but she wasn't really sure she wanted to move again.

Evie could hear that Ellie was not fond that she had to move around. She tried to sound more excited about it, and Evie could not tell if she tried to convince Evie or herself about it. For Evie, it sounded great! Not having to see the same faces every day, and getting awey every now and then? What I wouldn't give she thought. "That sounds cool," Evie finally said. "Moving around from place to place, visiting every piece of Derenta, exploring every corner, and revealing every secret a place has to hold? That sounds awesome! You must have seen so many places that I have not," she said, and she took the last bite of her jerky piece.

Ellie shrugged slightly as she ate another bit of dried fruit. "I guess it's alright. The new places are exciting and it's fun to explore." She looked our at the branches, her back to Evie and ears drooping slightly. "It would be much nicer if everyone wasn't the same. Every place is the same that way. Nobody wants an honest friend, just somebody who says what they wanna hear. I try to do it nice but they still don't like it so they find ways to get me in trouble. With my night markings it'll only get worse." She glanced over her shoulder then looked at the ground. "Sorry. I didn't mean to bore you with this stuff. You're just the closest thing to a real friend I've ever had. We might not be super close like best friends, that can take time, but I'd trust you over just about anyone else." She clamped her mouth shut. Why oh why did she always spill her guts like that to everybody. Not just poor Evie but anyone who would listen. She braced herself for a heavy and probably awkward silence. "Did you have a time you had to be home by? It's getting close to noon."

Evie could her that Ellie meant every thing that she had said. If she said them to Evie, or if Ellie just needed it out she was unsure, but something told her it was the latter. And Evie could only relate. Evie never had the life-long friendship that so many had. When she finally made somewhat of a friend that would drift apart rather quickly. For Ellie it must be even worse. She was weird in her own way, there was no denying that, also having her markerings and Jynx? It must be hard to befriend anyone. "No worries, you are not boring me." Evie said and tried to sound calmy. She knew that Ellie did not want to feel like she was making a fool of herself - and honestly Evie did not think that. "You are right, a lot of people don't want honesty, even though that is what they say they want. I am glad you are though." Evie stretched out after the little big for a dried piece of fruit. "Speaking of honesty, I said I would explain a thing or two yeaterday, didn't I?" Evie said. It just came out of her. Did Evie really want to talk about it? It just felt so natural to say, and she genuinely wanted Ellie to know, even though there was nothing that would change.

Eric relaxed as Evie spoke. The grey filly sounded almost gentle as she said her piece, strange coming from Evie but soothing none the less. Ellie passed some of her fruit with a grateful smile. She had been thinking about what to say next when Evie brought up what she had said earlier. She perked up a bit and pricked her ears, then took a deep breath trying to not look so eager. She thought she saw a flicker of uncertainty cross Evie's face and smiled gently. "I told you back at camp, you don't have to tell me a thing. If you want to talk, I'll listen, but if you don't want to you don't have to." She laid down and stretched a bit, waiting to see what Evie had to say.

Ellie was good at hiding it, but Evie could see that is was curious. Just like a scout should be, she thought.
"No, it's fine. I mean, that's what friends do right? Tell each other things like this." Evie turned around and laid on her back. She looked at what part of the sky she could see through the veins of the tree. "Do you remember when we sat at that cave in Arid Peaks, and you asked me what I missed the most? Then something about your parents trying to understand and help you, and I said 'That is more than I can say about my parents.' That is because my family is not quite like your's Ellie. Yours a friendly, you all care and help each other all the time. No family is perfect, you probably also have some things that could be better - even though I don't know about them - but mine is... less perfect than others." Evie sighed, still looking at the blue sky. "My father was often in Nordberg when I grew up. I always assumed it was just missions - and it is most of the time - but I recently just realized that he was in Nordberg more than a normal herd member. So I asked him why and he wouldn't tell me. Later my parents had a fight, and then my mom came to me later at night." Evie reached for another piece of dried fruit. "She told me that before I was born, my father somehow had a child with someone in Nordberg. Then I was born after and she found out, but they still stayed together. The reason he so often goes to Nordberg is to make sure that... he is okay and that the mother has enough money to take care of him. So that's it. That is why everything has been kinda tense the last few days."
