RP between FlyLu's Evie and My Ellie. Evie and her family are visiting relatives near where Ellie lives and come for a visit.
Ellie|Scout Apprentice
The mid fall sun shone down on Ellie, warming her coat inspite of the slight chill in the air. It hadn't snowed yet, but it could if it got any colder. She was practicing a few things she learned in camp with Eric while Mattie watched. The black and white filly had insisted on following Ellie around since her 5th birthday was next spring. As long as they weren't going far, or doing anything to dangerous or hard Eric let her. He did set some ground rules for her, but so far she was following them.
Ellie had told her family all about camp and how great it had been. She had also told them about Evie. Her parents had been thrilled to hear about it, Mattie had insisted she was exaggerating.
Ellie did the maneuver she was working on again. Wanting to have it perfect for when she went back to camp. Mattie was asking Eric question after question about camp and if he knew much about ones other than air. Ellie tuned her out and focused on her breathing as she started again. Just then she thought she smelled something. She looked around, she had not smelled that scent since camp. Could it be?

Evie had had enough. She could not take anymore of whatever was comming out of that old man's mouth. "Oh, fuck off," she said and rolled her eyes. "Evie!" her dad shouted in suprise and anger. "What is wrong with you?! Apologize to your grandfather." "No way!" she said and turned around to go. "You need to stay and say sorry. Don't you go Evie. You can not keep running away from everything like you always do." "Watch me." "Evie, come back here." "I've had enough, of all of you." Evie's mother (as always) came to the rescue. Evie ignored the words, but she could hear her tell her father something aboyt calming down.
She made a sharp wind and cut the grass all around her. Everything is a mess! How could they?! she thought, as the grassblades flew around her. They had lost their pretty green color, they were more brown-ish now. Not like the leaves, they were pretty this time of the year. She sighed. I can't belive they did not tell me. She wandered around for a while. She had promised that she would visit Ellie while she was here visiting her mothers family, but was that really a good idea? So much was going on in her head. But a promise is a promise, she thought. Besides, it might take my thoughts away from all this shit. Yeah.
Evie did not quite remember where Ellie lived, but she had a feeling, so she started to wander, hoping to walk into her at some point.

Ellie looked around. The wind had shifted slightly so the large gust that had blown the scent was coming from a different direction. Ellie shook her mane. She was a scout this should be easy enough. Mattie had Eric distracted right now anyway. Ellie trotted towards where the wind had been blowing from originally. She had to check and be sure.
Once Ellie was far enough away she moved faste, swinging her head from side to side, scanning for anything. She made it to the top of a small hill and looked around. There by the tree line! A slender grey form was walking in her general direction. It had to be Evie, she recognized the shade of grey. Ellie practically flew down the hill, and called out as she came closer. "Evie! You came!" She slid to a halt then walked close. She hesitated then gave Evie a quick little hug. The grey filly had said she wasn't big on hugs, but Ellie figured this was a small one for a special occasion.
She pulled back smiling happily until she noticed Evie's expression and that she was alone. It was on the tip of her tongue to ask what was wrong and where her parents were, but she stopped herself. Evie would explain when she was ready. In stead she looked at Evie earnestly. "I'm really glad you made it."
"Ellie!" A voice called from the other side of the hill. "Over here Eric!" She called back. She looked at Evie. "Come on, I'll introduce you to my family." A black and white blur shot past her and nearly collided with Evie. "Ohh! Who's this? Never seen her before. She that friend you told us bout. Hmmm? Is it? Hmm? Hmm? Guess you weren't making stuff up. Woah your eyes look like Dotty's. Don't they El? Hmph!" The filly's tirade was halted when Ellie tripped her, sat on her shoulder, and placed a hoof on her muzzle. "If you'd let me get a word in Mattie. Yes this is Evie." She looked at Evie with an apologetic shrug. "This oversized, hyper-active squirrel is my little sister Mattie." Mattie managed to get Ellie's hoof off her face. "Squirrel? I'm no squirrel!" "No? Well you act like one. Will you behave if I let you up." Mattie put on her most innocent look and nodded. Ellie rolled her eyes and got up. "I promise the rest of my family isn't nearly as batty as her. Come on, you'll like my mom."
(Note. Anything Mattie says is to be read in as fast a blur as possible.)

Evie had been looking down while walking. Not the best tactic when you are looking for someone, but it was accidentally, she did not mean too. When she heard an all too familiar voice calling her name, she looked up. For a short second, all Evie's worries were gone, when she saw the exited and happy face that Ellie had as she came running. "Of course I did!" Evie replied with a smile. Ellie hesitated before giving her a welcome-hug. Evie was glad and smiled, but apparently not a big enough smile. Evie could see that Ellie had spotted her previous mood hiding in her face, even though at the moment Evie was not worrying about that. But Ellie did not ask about it, which Evie was glad about. Ellie called for Eric, but it was a foal that came running towards Evie all of a sudden. She rambled, and Evie could not keep up with what she was saying, only that she was talking about her. Ellie started explaining to what Evie assumed was Ellie's younger sister. Evie did her best to smile at the girl. "Nice to mee ya' Mattie," she said. Evie nodded to Ellie and followed her. Everything that had happened and she had been thinking of was no longer on her mind. She was doing her best to make a good impression for now.

Ellie led the way up the hill to Eric who had paused to wait.He gave Evie a friendly smile and nodded, but said nothing. She was alone, when she said she had family in the area. This made Eric suspicious and concerned, but he hid it well. He nudged Ellie with a grin. "We can call it quits today. I'll be back tomorrow morning. Good to see you Evie. See ya later Mattie." He ambled off slowly like he did everything. What the youngsters did not know was he was going to follow Evie's trail back to whomever she was with so they at least knew she was safe and where to find her.
Ellie grinned and led the way. Mattie trotted alongside Evie talking excessively. Evie didn't even have half a chance to answer. Their parents mostly stayed near an enormous old pine tree near the wood line. It offered protection from most bad weather, was easily seen from a distance and it's roots had all sorts of crevices where Ellie and her family stored edible roots or anything else they wanted to keep near.
Ellie trotted a little ways ahead. "Hey mom! Evie came to visit!" Winifred came out of the shadows. She was a smaller mare only 15 hands and almost completely white. Her ears, around her eyes and a few other spots on her body were jet black. She moved gracefully and smoothly forward, and smiled warmly. Welcome Evie. It's wonderful to meet you." She gave Evie a brief but warm hug. "You girls just shout if you need something." She trotted back to where she had been weaving a basket with Dotty. The younger filly smiled shyly but didn't come closer.
Ellie grinned. "That was my mom. The palimino over there is my youngest sister Dorothy, but we call her Dotty. She's even more shy and quiet than me, if you can believe it. My dad went hunting this morning."
(Mom is Winifred, or Winnie. Mattie is short for Matilda and she is 4 or 12ish. Dotty is 3, or 8ish)

Evie nodded to Eric in return. Unlike Ellie (and most likely herself) who were ageing fastere and therefore had grown a slight bit since summercamp, Eric looked like himself. "Good to see you too," she replied him. She did not notice him following the trails she had left behind her.
Evie di her best to answer Mattie. There was no way she could talk with her, whenever Evie was just close to ending a sentene, Mattie started again, and Evie had nothing to do but to just nod and smile, pretending to listen and uderstand. Quite a talker, eh? she thought. It did not take them long before they came to a old big pine tree. Evie looked from the bottom of it to the top, it really was big. Ellie walk up and called out her mother. She was a pretty and friendly woman, at least by first sight. She gave Evie a short hug. She did not enjoy it, but neither was it annoying, but she knew she was simply doing it to be polite. Winifred walked back to the showdow of the big tree where another of Ellie's sisters stood. She smiled at her. She listened to Ellie introduceing both of them. "Really, more shy than you? Yup, I can not imagine that," she said.

Ellie giggled. "Dad says Mattie got our doses of bravery and talkative-ness. I think he's right." She led the way to the spot she and her sisters slept. "This part my parents mostly leave alone so me and my sisters have some privacy and space if we want it." She reached into the roots and pulled out a small box, and in that box was a leather pouch. She opened it and pulled out a small brush and comb set. She passed the brush to Evie so she could look and started combing her mane. "My dad brought me these as a gift after my ceremony. When me and my sisters don't feel like playing or training we lay around here and brush each other's manes and tails. We even braid them sometimes. Just don't let Mattie do yours. She's easily distracted." Mattie stuck her tongue out at Ellie. "Your just jealous that your not as good as me." Ellie snorted. "Last time you did my mane I looked like a porcupine."

Evie looked at the brush. How nice of him to give her gifts, she thought. Her father had not given her anything when she died, but her mother had been very proud of her, unlike her father that was disappointed that she had been a year later than usally. She had gotten hr hair brushed before (otherwise it would be a big mess), but she could not remember ever having it. Evie giggled by Ellis comparison. "You know, I don't think I have ever gotten my mane or tail braided, ever."

Mattie's eyes went wide in excitement and she started moving towards Evie. "Ohh, we can fix that no problem! Oooph!" Ellie had given Mattie a little kick catching her off guard. "You brush, I'll braid. We are not sending her back looking like she was struck by lightning." Mattie tried begging a moment before she stuck her tongue out at Ellie. Her sister made a face and stuck out her tongue right back.
Mattie then tried getting Ellie overruled. "MOM! Ellie's being bossy!" "Mattie stop causing trouble and play nice." Winifred never looked up from her basket, nor did she yell but she was easily heard. "But, mom..." Mattie persisted "You've a butt on one end, don't tell me your head is turning into one." "Why do you always side with her?" "Because my dear, I know you all to well. Now settle down or play elsewhere." Mattie grumbled under her breath and stuck her tongue out again, but she quit trying to argue. Ellie offered her the brush with a smile, Mattie took it and got to work.
Mattie gently brushed the snarls from Evie's mane while Ellie used the comb and braided it. Ellie did a running braid with only a few small flourishes, figuring Evie wasn't one for fancy or frilly. Even so it was still quite pretty. By the time Ellie started on Evie's tail Dotty had drifted over and was working on Mattie. Ellie smiled, this was going well. So far Evie seemed to be enjoying herself at least a little and her sisters were having fun to.

"Ohh, we can fix that no problem! Oooph!" Mattie said excited, it felt like she was about to jump around. Evie made an awkward and nervous giggle. She did not intend to have her mane or tail braided, but there is no going back now, is there? she thought. And before she knew it, Mattie and Ellie were focused on the art of braiding. Just hope my mane isn't too messy, she thought. She was never one to care about how she looked. It was something to get used to, having her mane brushed. The odd feeling of knowing the hair bending over each other, but not actually feeling it, is that there is something going on with her hair, and she had no way to tell how it looked like. "So, how does it look?" she finally said when they were done.

Ellie smiled as she looked at Evie. "You look good. Hold on a second." She dug around under the roots and pulled out a small burnished copper disk. "Here take a look." She held up the disk. Her parents let her and her sisters use it for a mirror. It was a simple running braid with a few smaller flourishes to make it look prettier but it wasn't too fancy. "What do you think?"

(No problem, it's small extra stuff to make things fancy. Say you write your name and you add extra loops and lines to make it more fancy, those extra loops and lines are flourishes. If you add some small flowers or ribbon to a hair style those are flourishes. In this case Ellie added tiny braids and looped the hair a bit to make the braid more fancy. 😊 I like to use fancy words to add flourish to my sentences.. *sad trombone* Pun intended. Sorry, I'm awful.)

Evie looked over Ellie's shoulder, wondering what she was doing. She found an cobberish flat plate and hold it in front of Evie so she could see herself. Evie turned her head around so her mane would show in the mirror, but just enough so that she could still se it from the corner of her eye. Evie was not sure how fitting a braid was for her, it might be too girly, but she had to addmit the "craftmanship" behind it. The braid was very pretty, and she studied how it was made. She had not learnt herself how to make them, so she tried to figure it out just by looking at them. "They are very pretty." Evie said. "I have never seen myself with these, it is fun to have now."

Ellie grinned watching Evie. "It's really easy. Mattie, shake out that braid and come over here please." Mattie groaned dramatically then grumbled. "I've been sitting still for ages already." Dotty nudged her hard. "I didn't take that long." She glanced at Evie shyly. "I..I'll come sit Ellie." Ellie smiled warmly and tucked Dotty against her. She shifted back slightly so Evie could see. "Watch it's really simple once you get the idea." She demonstrated slowly for a moment before she looked at Evie. "You wanna try it? Dotty won't mind, and you can't be worse than Mattie." Dotty giggled and Mattie snorted.
