Monabur Objective A mysterious thief is stealing whatever jewel or whatever glistering object they can find. No one has seen the thief yet and its identity is, therefore, unknown. A noble, whose precious brooch has been stolen, set out a bounty on the thief so that they are soon to be found. The trail leads to Lake Rhea. What will you find there and what will you do?

Dara Morcos | housewife [NPC]
Stolen jewels and now a noble even has set a bounty on the thief! Good thing Dara didn’t make it a habit of carrying around sparkling objects with her or precious accessories in general. She was a simple woman who didn’t need all the glimmering proofs of a wealth she did not possess anyway. So the bounty caught her interest. She could surely use a few more coins this month with the new year’s feast coming around. With that money, they would be able to afford a suckling pig! What a nice surprise that would be for her husband and her son. She smiled mischievously as she pictured the looks on their faces. And all she had to do for that was to find a brooch. Simple. She was well aware that she probably was not the only one who searched for it with the eyes on the reward, but a little naïve hope of being the one to find it didn’t hurt, did it? After a while, Dara realised that it was like an advanced scavenger hunt. She had always been good at those as a kid. The difference here was that she had to listen for clues and had to keep a very keen eye out for any visual clues. It took her a lot of asking around and counting things together, but she eventually saw a pattern in the way things were stolen. A pattern that lead her to the city gate to the lake Rhea. A queue of people stood there, waiting to be let through. Among others a caravan that was currently checked with iron and whose belongings were searched for any illegal goods. It would take at least ten minutes until the guards would be done with them, but Dara was patient. She looked at the other people in the line and straightened her dress out of boredom. She noticed two particular stallions in line who she distantly recognised as soldiers. While she could not claim to know all soldiers of the royal army, she at least knew some of them due to her son being one as well. She walked up to the grey equine and the Pegasus. »Greetings you two. How is the job doing? Off-duty today?« She asked friendly. She doubted that they would recognise her. After all, she was the mother of one of their fellows. One knew one’s colleagues, but not their parents. Still, there never was something wrong with idle chatter, was there?

Axel | Soldier (sergeant)
Axel recognized the mare almost instantly, he had seen her with her son a few times in the evening while he was off duty but patrolling anyway. He could see that she was trying to make small talk and for once Axel didn't mind, the day had been slow and he was bored
>>Afternoon Ms. Morcos. Sad to say but with that broach being stolen the chief has everyone in high alert and strict schedule. Things have been quite boring to be honest, we spend most of the day searching people, meanwhile while we do this the other thieves are left to roam the city.<<
Axel gave a snort of frustration, he would do as be was told and deal with the other thieves when he was off duty and during the evening when most were asleep. As he chatted with the made he continued searching the line of people giving his partner a hand when needed and keeping a watch out for strange happenings.
>>So, I assume your son is doing well. I haven't seen him around the compound lately or out on patrol?<<
Axel didn't usually care about other soldiers too much but he had happened to train with the boy a few times and he showed promise in becoming a great soldier. That and he was one of the few Axel could tolerate going through a training session with.

Evie | Scout (Verensa herd)
*The texst below contains swearing*
Evie was not used to it being this hot. For a moment, she missed the beautiful lakes and rivers back in Derenta. She stood for a moment on the busy market and dreamed of home. She turned her head, and she could barely see the castle, where the royal family lived. She had visited it on this trip, just to see where it all happened, and if there was anything remaining from the fire. Somebody reeeeaaaally fuck'ed up there, she thought. Since that day, almost everyone knew about caspanas. She was quiet for a moment. I hope they made it out safe, whoever they were. Evie had been on a mision. It was an easy one, but had to be done. Even though she missed Derenta, a story had taken her interest. A mysterious thief was in Monabur, and Evie was determined to find it. She had herself been taking a bread and appele here and there when she was in Norddberg, but jewelry was different. They were expensive, and some people found their jewelry very meaningful for them. Also it had taken an earring she had bought for friend Taylor. But mostly because she felt bad for the citizens. No, not really. She did not really care. She was just here for the fun of it. She was lucky her partner did not mind staying a little more. He said he knew somebody here in the city or whatever, it was not important why, just the fact that they could stay a little longer. And she had spent her time well. She had talked with a lot of people. Asked them if they had lost anything to this thief,or if anyone had seen them. Of course nobdy had seen the thief. Her magic and scout training had helped her the most. It had showed up, that whoever the mysterious thief was, they apparently really liked the Lake Rhea. Almost every track she had found was pointing to this. She walked over to the gate closest by to get out, and afterwards she could go over to the lake. Sh stood in line and waited to her turn. Evie could not help herself but to look at the iron they cheched people with. She had felt them before, and they hurt bad. Realle bad. She did have a plan when the time for her turn came, but of course she was still nervous.

Clayton | Soldier (Messenger) A missing brooch, a hefty bounty, an average day - all signs contributed to Clayton's distaste for working security this day. Although there were worse jobs to be assigned, the Pegasus was less than thrilled to be baking in the heat, dealing with uncomfortable, grumpy civilians. He would much rather prefer to be curled up in a corner with a good book and some wine, or cracking the case of the recent increase in thievery throughout Monabur. On the upside, his partner in crime for the day was Axel, a good friend and comrade. Although the larger stallion was younger than himself, Clayton had a hefty amount of respect for the soldier. Axel was willing to go above and beyond the call of duty and carried his weight well. Better yet, he wasn't overbearing or annoying. When a friendly, older mare trotted over to start small talk with the two soldiers, Clayton acknowledged her existence with a small nod of his head and a pleasant hello. "Shouldn't be much longer until we get off-duty though, ma'am," Clayton spoke with a polite smile. The mare seemed familiar but Clayton couldn't quite remember where he had seen her before. In contrast, Axel seemed to know exactly who this mare was. So, Clayton proceeded to move the line along as Axel dived into conversation with this 'Ms. Morcos'. If someone was going to humor her, let it be the stallion who actually knows the mare.

Cougar | Thief To say the more covert members of Monabur society were in a buzz was an understatement. At just about every illicit meetup someone was yammering on about the stolen jewels, the stolen brooch and the hefty reward money set on the guilty thief's head. At first Cougar was a bit miffed, he should have thought of such an idea first. But as the thefts had increased the buckskin stallion had been forced to admire the anonymous thief's bravado and skill. Thus, Cougar had forgone his usual routine of picking the pockets of market shoppers and instead decided to mingle with the more shadowy citizens. The criminal underground was a beautiful thing, information flowed like spring water, how accurate that information was however was another question. So it had taken Cougar only a couple conversations, and a bribe or two, to discern that the mysterious thief's trail led straight to Lake Rhea.
*Interesting choice of hideout. Maybe this thief has a flair for the dramatics and is holed up in a cave somewhere.* Cougar mused as he came to a halt at the line that slowly fed through the city gate. Casually he flicked the hood of his drab brown cloak over his head, the odds of him being stopped by the guards at the gate where small but he liked to play it safe. He did a mental check to make sure he didn't have any items too compromising on his person at the moment. Nope, just his trusty knife, hidden way under the folds of his robe. He glanced idly down the line of horses waiting to exit the city and spend a day at the lake. The two guards at the gate suddenly caught his attention. "Shit." Cougar swore under his breath as he recognized the two soldiers. One was a large grey stallion whom Cougar had seen around quite a bit lately, the buckskin would remember his name in a minute. The other one was Clayton, the soldier who had once chased Cougar halfway around the city. Both could potentially identify the notorious thief the moment they laid eyes on him. Common sense dictated that this was as far at Cougar ought to go, but then again, Cougar had a habit of disregarding common sense. "This is gonna be fun." He said to himself with a mischievous grin.

Dara Morcos | housewife [NPC]
Mrs Morcos nodded in understanding when the grey stallion described his day so far. Meanwhile, the line slowly moved forward and a mare and a stallion joined it behind Dara. She did not pay them any heed though and kept talking to the soldiers. "Yes, Rylon has been kept quite busy lately by her highness. I'm certainly not complaining that he is in her favour, but I barely see him anymore." Dara sighed. Most people thought that being in the favour of royalty would make one's life easy, but that was not necessarily the case. Her son did not get paid more than other soldiers his rank and he certainly never got any extra tips from the royal family themselves. The only privilege he had was his allowance to go almost anywhere in the palace. It still was an honour one should not regard lightly and Dara prayed thankfully to the gods every day. "About that brooch, though. A reward has been promised to the one finding it. This is a legitimate offer, is it not? I really do not want to get into any uncomfortable situations if I would so happen to find it." The grey mare said. The last thing she wanted was to get arrested by her own son. What a humiliation that would be! While Mrs Morcos talked to the two soldiers, the caravan, that had been checked, went through the gate one by one and eventually, it was Dara's turn. She let the guards at the gate look through her bags and test her with a piece of iron on the neck. She paused the conversation with the two soldiers momentarily for it but picked it up again once she was through. "These checks have not really changed much in the last five years, have they? I thought they would eventually invent a safer system since I heard that fae occasionally slip through." The mare shuddered at the mere thought. As most people in Monabur, she had been present when the palace had caught fire and the loss had been an especially high one for her since she had known the little prince personally. Those were grim memories. "Have you ever encountered any in your days? My son, luckily has not, which means they would not dare to come close to the princess. This should be a good sign, but I'm still worried."

Axel | Soldier (Sergeant)
*Slightly Mature Content*
Axel was only half paying attention to Dara, he understood that her son, Rylon, was busy especially since he worked in the palace. Axel didn't mind the heat, he usually stayed out late into the evening running down criminals and was up before the sun back on duty once again. He looked out down the line, and when he did he thought he spotted a familiar buckskin horse, but they were too far away for him to be sure, and before he had a chance to step a little closer they had flicked their cloak hood up to cover their face. When Dara said she was potentially going to go search for criminal who took the brooch something snapped in Axel, probably his protective warrior like personality, but he was on full alert after seeing the buckskin. He gave a snort, growing impatient with her, when she had mentioned the fae and her feelings for them it pushed him over the edge. He was sure Clayton would be shocked by his sudden change in attitude/behavior, but he was also sure that he would understand granted the events they went through in his past. Axel stopped what he was doing and wheeled around to face the mare, a fire burning through him, he spoke in a tone no one wanted to hear. His already gruff voice was now cold and angry, almost haunting as he spoke down to her.
"Now you listen here Dara, I don't need an extra load thrown on my shoulders because you got the dumb idea to chase after a criminal yourself. There is a reason why there are trained soldiers that patrol the city, and I'm sure that Rylon wouldn't appreciate you putting yourself in potential danger. Whether there is or isn't a reward for the brooch, I for one will personally say that I am entirely too busy to come and save your ass if you get into trouble, so best not to got there. And as for what I believe about the fae, and the events of the past, and how MY job is run... That is for me to know and ME ALONE. If you have a problem with how we conduct business, take it up with the chief or the royals. Now get movin' I have a job to do and kept me from it long enough"
Axel let out a growl as he nudged the mare in the direction of those who were already checked, he had officially had enough of her and he was about ready shove her out of the way so he could continue working. He held his head high and proceeded to ignore Dara, focusing on the hooded figure and a potential thief that stole the brooch. He could feel the weight of his knives under his cloak, something he was still getting used to but he felt just a little safer knowing he had them if he needed them. Aside from his knives he had greatly improved his control over his fire magic, though he next to never used it. As upset as he was with Dara, he was gentle with those he had to check, he may look tough but he had a gentle side when you didn't piss him off, which Dara had currently succeeded in doing.

Evie | Scout (Verensa herd)
Evie was starting to get impatient. She felt trapped bewteen all these people. She cursed and mumbled quiet for herself, but she knew there was not much he could do about it anyway. Some people up in front of her had cought her interest. A lady and two soldiers she guessed. She thought about if she sould move away from the soldiers, since she did not like having them around her, but then she realized that she had done nothing wrong. Except being caspana of course. "These checks have not really changed much in the last five years, have they? I thought they would eventually invent a safer system since I heard that fae occasionally slip through." the mare said. Evie got a little angry. She knew this was how the people thought about fae and caspanas, especially in Monabur, but still. How people could just act and think like that of somthing they did not know anything about made her mad. Everything they thought they knew was a lie, and anybody who said different was wrong. Evie did not get to complain in her inner self before the mare continued. "Have you ever encountered any in your days? My son, luckily has not, which means they would not dare to come close to the princess. This should be a good sign, but I'm still worried." Evie could not help herself but to smile. Oh, if you knew lady, she thought. She had been visting the castle earlier this day, and here this lady stood and said that caspanas did not dare to even enter Monabur! She realized the irony in theses people talking and Evie standing just a few meters away. Then, suddenly something snapped in one of them. The soldier started scolding the lady on open street. It got a lot of attention from the people around them. Well snap! she thought. The situation had appeared out of nowhere, and Evie decided not to get involved.

Clayton | Soldier (Messenger)
Ah, that's why he recognized this mare! The moment she mentioned her son he knew exactly who she was. She was the mother of the young Rylon, a soldier favored by the Royal family. Although Clayton had exchanged words with the dark stallion before, they were lax acquaintances at best. However, Rylon was a good contact to have so Clayton made note to treat his mother with the utmost respect. He listened intently to Ms. Morcos words as she spoke, and he felt frustration prick his pelt as she brought up common security concerns several citizens of Monabur had. Did she not realize what a strenuous task it was to check so many people in a day alone? Not to mention time consuming. Sure, it wasn't the most secure way to go about checking for fae, but any other method would lead to impatient, angry travelers that no soldier cared to deal with. At least there was some form of security present here in contrast to the poor conditions found in Santugan.
The pegasus' gaze swept the line for suspicious characters: there was a grey mare (Evie) closer to the front of the line, a family of cougars, a wolf, and some other equines. And then his eyes briefly settled on a hooded... equine, was it? His expression went blank as he unknowingly stared at Cougar for a moment. Better keep an eye on that one.
Clayton swallowed his annoyance with Ms. Morcos and the line to turn his thoughts to more important ones: the missing brooch and its hefty reward. He had heard about it here and there as his fellow comrades gathered in small groups, whispering plans to go after this talented thief in their free time. A soldier's pay was not much, so the reward was enticing to most. For Clayton, it was merely a game he simultaneously wished to participate in and end. But this untrained mare wanted to go hunt for it on her own? The pegasus was about to voice his own opinion on the matter when Axel suddenly erupted. What is he doing? Was this boy a complete numskull! How could such a casual conversation take such a drastic turn? One minute Clayton was systematically checking people through the line, and the next he was taken aback by Axel's gall to lecture this mare. Clayton glared his displeasure at Axel, "Watch that temper," he said coolly, then turned fully around to deal with Ms. Morcos. He'd have a little chit-chat with Axel later about mannerisms. "You'll have to excuse my comrade's behavior, Ms. Morcos. It's been a stressful for all of us with the increase of thievery in the city," Clayton said with an apologetic smile. "To answer your question, yes, the bounty is legitimate. But I must insist you don't go looking for that brooch on your own. It could be dangerous." The pegasus cautioned with a stern tone and look. "If you must go searching for it, allow Axel and I to assist you." Clayton was well aware his friend was probably going to kill him after this, but that's okay if it meant making a good connection.

Cougar | Thief
The line was moving, but not nearly fast enough for Cougar, who lived a majority of his life in the fast lane. He tapped a hoof impatiently. From under the shadow of his hood he thought he caught Clayton eyeing him, it took a massive about of self control not to make a cheeky face at the soldier. Cougar didn't expect he would pass through the gates undetected but from the snatches of conversation he had heard among the soldiers and the wealthy mare, perhaps he could offer some help in the endeavor to reclaim the stolen brooch? After all what better way to catch a thief than by using a thief? Personally, Cougar admired this mysterious thief's work too much to want to see whoever it was caught and behind bars. There was no fun in that. The buckskin did however want to find out who the culprit was and he certainly wouldn't mind getting his hooves on the brooch and that tantalizing reward money.
A voice raised in anger drew Cougar's attention. It seemed the other soldier had gone off on the wealthy mare for some unknown reason. The buckskin turned to a grey mare (Evie) who stood nearby in line, he had noticed she too had been paying attention to the conversation. "Bit of a hothead aint he?" He said giving her a wry smile. Usually it was the buckskin thief who was the recipient of the anger of the law keepers. He wasn't sure what the mare had said to upset the grey soldier but judging from Clayton's expression and placating words the other soldier's anger didn't seem justified. Cougar didn't bother to get involved, drawing attention to himself was the last thing he needed right now, but he did watch closely from under his cowl.

Axel | Soldier
When Axel heard his name mentioned in assisting her in finding the brooch he shot a cold glare at Clayton. He kept working, mumbling under his breath about how Dara had no idea what she was talking about and she had no idea about him and what he believed. Axel had gone from a decently calm mood to seriously pissed in a matter of minutes and though he outranked Clayton, it was nice that the older stallion helped him keep his temper in check when he needed it. He growled to himself and took a deep breath before half turning his attention to Clayton and speaking in his usual calm, collected, gruff tone.
"Your right, I went too far, especially out here in front of everyone."
Just acknowledging that he was wrong in front of everyone practically killed him, especially since he knew better than to act like he did. It was the one thing that soldiers were taught not to do, one of the biggest "Rules" that they had. Ever since his father had almost killed him he'd had a harder time controlling his temper than normal and this time was no exception, it was probably the stupid idea of the mare and the label the fae were given that upset him the most, but he really even didn't know. He sighed and turned to Dara, his eyes showing that he was truly sorry even if the expression on his ever so serious face said otherwise.
"Dara, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gotten so upset with you, it was unprofessional and uncalled for. Its just been a really long day for all of us."
What he hadn't told Clayton when they came on duty was that he was going on very little to no sleep at all. He'd pulled three days worth of night duty on top of his normal day shift about the city and then he was assigned to do this. He was used to the lack of sleep, but it did tend to make him a bit short tempered. A boyish giggle and someone addressing him brought his attention back to the line, it was Valgar's son Vex, out exploring once again. "Hey Old Man, Why such the Grumpy Snoot?" Axel let out a hearty laugh, something he rarely if ever did, especially out in public. Those that knew him, especially Clayton would probably die of shock just at the thought of Axel laughing since the only time he really ever was in a good mood was if he was seriously drunk. He had to admit, being the Uncle of this kid had really grown on him, and he couldn't help but be amused and happy when he was around. "Who you callin' Old, Clayton's older than I am. Been a long day kid, get goin' and be safe, you know where to find be if you need me. Oh, and Vex will you stay out of trouble, I don't wanna be the one to explain to yer dad or mom why I had to haul you back to the compound." Axel had given Clayton a playful bump as he spoke and quickly checked Vex through the line, the visit from his nephew must have been just the thing he needed to cheer up until the end of his shift, cause he never stopped smiling the entire time and he checked people through the line much quicker and efficiently than they had been moving before.

Dara Morcos | housewife [NPC]
"It is quite alright. We all have our tempers, don't we?" Dara said with a friendly smile. While the outburst of the soldier had indeed startled her a lot - how unfriendly! - she had also quickly realised that he must be overworked. Poor Axel probably didn't get any sleep in days and now was assigned to this bothersome task. No, in this case, she was more sorry for him than she was angry. The grey mare stood at the gate after being permitted through and waited. After all, Clayton had said that they would assist her in the search and earlier he had mentioned them to almost be off-duty. So the smartest course of action was to just wait for them to be finished with their shift and to then search together. Having to wait for the two soldiers also gave her time to think the whole thing through a little. While Axel had let his temper get the better of him, he still had been right. She would put herself in danger if she would just continue to search on her own. Perhaps this thief even was armed. She had not thought about that. When she was done with overthinking the situation, she focused on the task ahead, which was finding the brooch itself. She turned around to look at the slight cliffs that were all around Lake Rhea. To get to the actual shores, one had to walk to the tee of the Deris that flowed into Lake Rhea and therefore supplied it with water. Other than that, there were the cliffs, overgrown with soft grass, that granted one a very scenic look on the lake itself. Dara doubted that the thief would be on any of those cliffs but that they rather had found a cave in the cliffs while walking down the shore. But then again, what if not? As far as she knew, many people had already tried to find the thief at Lake Rhea, but no one had found them yet. Maybe they were hiding somewhere completely else. Dara lightly stomped on the ground with a hoof in frustration. Now she had already deciphered all clues and arrived at Lake Rhea and it was still like finding a needle in a haystack.
[post #3 | 379 words] The lake depicted on the "Visit our Website" box background at the CRPG group page is Lake Rhea. So far I don't have a better picture of it yet, but I hope that is enough to let you understand what I meant with the cliffs and all since this description is all over the place.

Evie | Scout (Verensa Herd)
"Bit of a hothead aint he?" Somabody beside Evie suddeny said. She turned her head around to see a stallion with a wry smile looking at her. He did not look like he came from a high rank in this city. Her guess would be poor or maybe even thief. She read his mind quick, just to be sure. Yes, he was definitely a thief. "Yeah, he is. But it is kinda his job, right? If she is trying to find this thief-" she said, and she looked at him at the word "thief". Not with a threatening expression, just with a knowing one. "-then he should warn her. But yes, he is pretty brutal against her", she said, a little bit smiling and entertained about the whole situation. "The name is Evie. You?"
Before she knew, it was her turn. She stepped over to the guard with the iron, showing now signs of fear. Of curse, that was not what she was feeling on the indside. She had tried this many times, and it had never failed her, but the fear of something that could go wrong, and the iron that would touch her was too big. "Fear is what keeps you alive. If you don't fear it, you are not careful enough", that was at least what her tutor said once. Evie did not agree with her at the moment she said it, but it was nice to keep in mind when she was nervous. The guard came with the iron, and she quickly made an illusion spell, that would make the guard see and belive that the iron touched her, when it actually did not. Evie also made a small shield around the area, just in case. Though, it showed up it was not necessary .
She stepped outside the city gate, and looked at the wall. It was not as big as the one in Nordberg, but it was still very impressive . We will never have anything like this in Derenta, she thought. And that made her wonder. Why did they not? They did have the big shield, but still. They already had storage. why not any more buildings? She would love if there was a place with alcohol, so they did not have to be in cities for that. The herd would never say yes to such a thing. Her thoughts began to wonder to the stallion she had just meet. Who knew what he was doing outside the gate? It should be his turn soon, she wanted to maybe chat with him at again at some point.

Cougar | Thief
The grey mare said the word 'thief' in such a way that it was impossible to misinterpret. Cougar allowed his expression to betray his surprise. *How did she know?* He thought, for a moment stories of magic wielders and fae that could read minds crept into his thoughts. He quickly dismissed the notion, she had probably seen a wanted poster that had featured the buckskin stallion. There certainly where enough of them plastered around the city depicting Cougar with varying degrees of accuracy. "Nice to meet you. I'm Cougar." He replied with a winning smile. Since Evie hadn't alerted the soldiers to Cougar's identity, she was alright in his book. The buckskin was about to say something else that would have qualified as flirting but Evie was next in line. He watched as she stepped up to be tested by the soldiers then passed through the gate. His turn.
If Cougar had not chosen a life of crime he might have done well in the theater, he just couldn't resist a dramatic act. With head low and hood thrown far forward, Cougar limped forward to pass inspection, looking for all the world like some poor beggar. Ideally he would have liked some dirty old bandages to add to the disguise but for now his tattered cloak would have to do. He wheezed a little for effect as he moved. "Good day, sirs. Glad to have such fine soldiers protecting our city." The buckskin said in a croak. He almost laughed but instead turned it into a fit of coughing. All the better if the soldiers thought he was a poor diseased beggar. Cougar kept his eyes low as any poverty-stricken vagrant might. There was a chance this ruse might work with the big grey soldier, Axel, if Cougar had overhear the name correctly. The chances of fooling Clayton however where much lower. Cougar just hoped the winged soldier wasn't thinking about a particularity handsome buckskin thief that had led him on a merry goose chase around the city.
