Evie | Scout apprentice
Evie as really excited. It was time for her very first summer camp, how could she not be? Her tutor Samantha had talked so much about how she was glad to return to Arid Peaks. She was a very young tutor after all, it had not been more than a few years ago since she left the place for what she thought would be the last time. Her joy over being back was making Evie excited too. Evie and Samantha had been traveling for a few days to get to the mountains. It had first been easy, but the suroundings changed from meadow to forest and the rocks, and it made it much harder and slower, but then it was meadow again. But now, they were finnaly almost there, and they were both starving. They were slowly getting closer and closer to the big trees, they could see thm in the distance. "There are the trees" Samantha said. Evie looked closer. She could count three, but was not sure. They were huge. "Will there be food?" Evie asked, while she tried to hold back the sound of a hungry belly. Samantha smiled. "Yes, of course there will be!" she said. "I am starving too".

Ellie|Scout apprentice For once Ellie was glad Eric walked slow. Any other day headed to any other place Ellie would have been running circles around him begging him to move faster. Eric called himself methodical, and dependable. Ellie called him a slowpoke. Today was different. They were on their way to summer camp. Ellie’s first year of camp. Eric was chatting calmly about what she could expect once they got there. About how this was supposed to help her learn her special abilities in regards to her element, and blah, blah, blah. Ellie didn’t want to go. She hated being near new people, it had taken her months to get used to Eric. Granted she was glad she did, he answered her questions and taught her all kinds of things. If he wasn’t her teacher she would say he was cute. She wished there had been some way to bring one of her sisters with, but Eric had told her on no uncertain terms that was not allowed. Ellie sighed as she walked behind Eric. He must have heard her because he looked over his shoulder and grinned.
“Come on Ellie don’t look so glum. It might be fun if you let it.” Ellie gave him a sour look.
“I only just got used to you and now you are making me meet more people.” Eric dropped back beside her and ruffled her forelock.
“I’m not so bad, though am I? Maybe you’ll meet somebody else you could be friends with. You never know until you try.” Ellie huffed, she couldn’t argue with logic. She walked beside him quietly. Eric paused for a moment, and a blush hit his cheeks. “Um, Ellie. Your parents have given you the talk right.” Ellie tipped her head.
“Which talk? The one about magic, the one about manners or the one about boys?” Eric gulped.
“The one about boys, what did they tell you about?” What had Eric so squirrely? Ellie rolled her eyes slightly.
“They told me how boy are different than girls, how babies are made, and how I’m not allowed to date until I’m 10.” Eric seemed to relaxed a bit.
“Well about how babies are made, um… Before we get to camp I really should teach you, uh something to keep that from happening.” He was stuttering and blushing hard. Ellie thought it was funny that sex talk made him so uncomfortable. Eric managed to stammer his way through teaching her the spell, with Ellie giggling at him the whole time. After a bit they saw another mentor and apprentice up ahead. Eric sped up muttering to Ellie as he did. “Just do as I do, it will be good practice.” He smiled as he called out to the pair ahead of them. “Hello, on your way to camp are we?”

Evie | Scout apprentice
Evie enjoyed walking around. The harsh and rocky area had changed to meadow. She felt like running. Then someone called on her and Samantha. They both turned their head to see another pair of tutor and apprentice. Since it was the tutor to speak, it felt more right it was Samamntha to reply to him. "Yes we are! I asume you are too?" she said to the stallion. Evie was not sure what to do and looked at his apprentice. She was almost the same hight as herself, mabe a year younger, and very colorfull. Okay, she was maybe not that colorful, but comparred to herself, she was. Evie was just grey and black. Also, she seemed to be almost hiding behind her tutor. While Samantha replied him, Evie walked the few steps between them, and got closer to the young girl. "Hey." Evie said to her. "Who are you?"

Ellie| Scout Apprentice Eric smiled and was his usual easygoing self.
“Yes. It’s my first time taking an apprentice, how about you?” Ellie was so busy watching Eric she didn’t notice the other apprentice approaching her.
“Hey who are you?” Ellie squeaked and ducked behind Eric. She hadn’t expected the filly to speak to her. Ellie peeked around Eric and slowly came out from behind him. She glanced quickly at the other filly. Ellie thought she was pretty, spots and unique markings were common to her. Her whole family was spotted with different patterns. She liked the solid gray with black detail. “It suits her” she thought. Her eyes made her feel even more comfortable, they were a lovely shade of purple like her baby sister’s. A different shade perhaps but still purple. She took a deep breath.
“M…My name is Elicia, but everyone I know calls me Ellie. You can call me either, I don’t mind.” Her voice trailed off a bit. She probably sounded like she was babbling using all those words. She ducked her head slightly. She hated small talk, she sucked at it.

Evie | Scout apprentice
"If that is not obvious , yes, she is my first one too" Samantha said to him. She was not much more than 14, there is no way she would have time to finnish a apprentice. Ellie, she thought. That is a nice name. Evie could see on the girl she did not feel completly comfortable about the whole talking-thing. She is shy, she thought for herself. She liked shy girls. Most of the time, they were so nice. Evie was not much like that. She did not care too much about strangers, but Ellie here seemed friendly, and she did not want to ruin her day with a snappy comment. "I think I will stick to Ellie" she said with a smile. "I'm Evie".

Ellie | Scout Apprentice Eric grinned at the mare. She sounded a little sassy to him but he didn’t mind.
“I have gotten myself into trouble guessing ages, so I just assume everyone is my age. I’m 19, a little old for a first-time teacher, but it is what it is.” He looked at the mare “You do look younger than me, but that’s all I’m going to say about that.” He kept his voice light and fun, making it sound like he was joking or teasing.
Ellie looked at Evie and smiled. “That’s funny our names sound alike.” She mentally kicked herself. “Well duh Ellie anyone with ears could hear that.” She could hear Jynx taunt her in her head. “Well let’s see you come up with something better to talk about.” That shut Jynx up for a bit. She looked around as she tried to think of something else to talk about. Eric was talking to the other mentor about camp, and age maybe she could too. “I just turned six in spring, and this is my first time going to camp, how about you?”

Evie | Scout apprentice
Samantha smiled at kept talking with the other tutor. While Evie was busy talking with Ellie, she could see that Samantha was enjoying talking with someone from the other sex to say so.
Ellie comented on their simliar names. "Well, yeah, it is!" she said. A slightly weird thing to say, but Evie had to agree on it. “I just turned six in spring, and this is my first time going to camp, how about you?” Ellie said. Evie could not help but to feel a little bad for her. She had so difficult talking with strangers, even though there was nothing to fear. Evie had to get herself together so she would not scare her somehow. "My birthday is in spring too. I turned seven though, even if this is my first year too. I uhh... had my curse awaken a year late". Evie said. She felt slightly embarrassed of having her curse a year later then most would. Now, she felt like it was her turn to say something. "So, are you excited?" she asked.

Ellie|Scout Apprentice
Ellie looked around. She didn’t want to sound wimpy, but she didn’t want to lie either. She took a deep breath.
“Not really. Meeting new people is kinda hard for me, and there are supposed to be a lot of people there.” She looked over at Evie. She was a little curious why she had her curse awoken so late, but it wasn’t her business. Evie would talk about it if she wanted to. She could hear the sound of people ahead. Lots of them. She walked a little slower, and her head dropped a bit. She just wanted people to like her. Young ones her age normally picked on her for being so trusting, and she had heard adults whisper about what her night markings meant. Those worried thoughts distracted her from watching her footing. They were making their way up the cliff side and the terrain was getting rough. Ellie tripped over some loose stones, and nearly fell. “Klutz” Jynx’s voice rang in her head. “This is why you should let me handle things. You worry too much.” She blushed and looked at her feet. She had to look at them when she was this embarrassed, or she would fall over herself again. Why couldn’t she handle thinking about what other people thought of her? She focused on her feet and walked on. “I would let you Jynx, but after the attitude you gave Eric I promised him I would do everything by myself for a while.” She just hoped the other kids were as nice as Evie seemed to be.

Evie | Scout apprentice Evie was not surprized by Ellies answer to her question. She really was a shy girl. The two groups had, while they talked, also gotten closer to the meeting place. They had gotten over the last area of of rocks, and everything turned to meadow again, after all the trees needed something to grow on, and they had in the horozen only grown bigger and gotten closer. The sound of people had grown a lot with. Evie looked over the shoulder to look at Ellie. She was looking at her feet while walking. She also did before, but there were rocks everywhere, she probaly just looked at where she walked. But now only grass was there. Was she embarrassed over something? After a time, they finnaly arrived at the rest place. Or the meeting place, Evie did not care much for the name. The area around them was beautiful! People on and over their age was all walking around waiting for something or someone to say something. For now, it was just a chaos of people and sound. Evie tried to ignore the people by looking up. She remembered how impressed she was every time she looked after the trees on the way. They just kept growing and growing as they came closer. It never stopped! And now they were finally here. She could not see the top, even though she tried hard. "What kind of trees is this?!" she asked Samantha. "I have no idea. I know they a grown by magic though" she said, while she herself looked up. "Most likely by earth mages. Poor guys" she said. Evie looked confused at her. Samantha could see and confusion and explained. "Earth mages are not really glad for heights. They will much more stay close to the ground. They often stay away from mountains and such. Just like we often do not like caves". Evie had to agree, she was not fan of caves, she always felt trapped indside of them. Evie looked down again, and looked on the people around them. Most older than herself, but since she was a year late, there was also some younger. She looked around, and hoped to spot Ellie bewteen the people. Ellie| Scout Apprentice
Ellie squashed herself to Eric’s side. She heard him grumble, but ignored him. He already knew she liked to be close especially if she was nervous. It had made him uncomfortable to start, but now he just muttered something about having extra legs. She looked around at the chaos around her. There were so many people. She had lost sight of Evie and her mentor in the crowds.
The camp leader a stern looking stallion called the campers to order. He explained some basic rules; no practice near the cliffs without an experienced tutor nearby, no leaving the sleeping area after dark, no practice during storms of any kind without special permission from him, and only him, and things like that. It was all common-sense stuff so Ellie stopped listening and looked at her fellow campers. Most looked like they weren’t listening and were chatting with friends. There were many different ages sizes and colors. The sheer number was making her dizzy. She was trying to guess just how many people there were when she realized a young stallion was staring at her. Not in a good way either. She had been looking in his general direction while she thought, and had probably had been making a face. Eric said she tended to do that when numbers were involved. She hoped he didn’t think she was making faces at him.
The camp leader, Ellie had missed his name, brought his speech to a close saying they had the rest of today to get to know each other and figure out sleeping arrangements. His only rule was the only way you could sleep in the opposite gender’s area, was if you were 13 or older. Ellie didn’t leave Eric’s side and mingle like the other apprentices she stayed where she was.

Evie | Scout apprentice
Finnaly someone said something about the camp. He seemed like a boring fella, he started with the rules of the camp right away, and Evie did not listen. She never cared much about rules anyway. The only thing she cared about rules, was breaking them. Thiugh, she heard something about that they could not leave camp after dark. Reeeaally? she thought. Now, that was the only thing she wanted to.
At the end, he said that everyone could use the rest of the day to get to know each other. Two third part of the people were already gone just a few minutes after ha said that. After all, they knew each other from last year, so they just went of. Now, the part that stood left, was mostly first years and their tutors. A lot of them stood shy and looked at each other without doing anything. Evie looked at Samantha. "The 'go find friends' thing Can wait. I. Want. Food." she said. She was still hungry. No, she was starving. Samantha could only agree. She did remember where the eating area was, and they both started to go that direction. Evie was pretty sure that is was just going to be grass, but she did not care much. Since a big part of everyone was gone now, it was more clear to see who was there and not. On the way, they passed Ellie and her tutor. Evie send her a friendly smile. She was curious, were her and Samantha the only one hungry? She had traveled with Ellie for a while, even though they had not talked much. She had not eaten a lot either. Was she not hungry? And what about all the others?

Ellie|Scout Apprentice
Most all the second and third years had found their friends from previous years and had gone off to who knows where. A few of the bolder first years and the stallion she had caught staring was gone too. Ellie looked around, to her it was still a lot but it was better than it had been before. She spotted Evie again and was thrilled when the gray filly smiled at her. She and her mentor were headed off somewhere.
“Eric, where are they going?” Eric grinned down at her.
“Where all the others are, at the dining area. Are you hungry enough to face a crowd or do you want to wait a bit?” Ellie hadn’t realized how hungry she was until Eric said something about food. She went to answer but her stomach answered for her with a loud growl. Eric grinned at her while he waited for her to make up her mind. Ellie blushed and ducked her head.
“I think I want some food, but only as long as I can stay with you to get it.” Eric shrugged.
“Fair enough. Come on this way.” He walked in the direction she had seen Evie and her mentor head.
They came around a large boulder to the clearing the camp used as the dining area. It was utter chaos to Ellie. Camp workers cooking and moving food, second years and a few first years crowding through a line to get food, and nearly all the third years laying around eating the food they got. Eric muttered to Ellie.
“After today first years get food first so the first day second and third years find their friends quickly and grab theirs first.” Ellie nodded half listening. She spotted Evie and her mentor already in line and hurried to join them. They got in line behind them. Ellie was so excited to be near someone who had been nice to her she spoke to her without thinking.
“Hi Evie, I didn’t realize how hungry I was until Eric said that was where everyone was going.” She inhaled the smells. “At least it smells good.”

Evie | Scout apprentice
Evie was thrilled when she could smell food. At the herd, they were mostly eating grass and fruit, sometimes someone went hunting, or someone brought food with them from cities. They were rarely making the food themself. But this? There was an actual kitchen? No wonder Samantha loved this place so much! Evie was really hungry, and not exactly happy when she saw the big line. She mumbled but with Samantha she got in line. She tried to smell what they were getting, but she could not quite find out. Ellie came suddenly walking towards them. “Hi Evie, I didn’t realize how hungry I was until Eric said that was where everyone was going,” Ellie said. She sounded happy. She, also, tried to smell the food. “At least it smells good.” Evie nooded, showing that she did agree. "Yeah, I have tried to find out what is it though. I can not, can you?" Evie asked Ellie.

Ellie stretched her neck trying to see.
“Sometimes it really stinks to be short. I can’t see a thing. I’ve not smelled it before, so it isn’t what we’ve had before.” When they got closer Ellie finally spotted it. Meat. Right after her initiation her parents had caught a lot of deer and made her eat most of it. They hadn’t cooked it as neither of her parents were fire mages. The new smell was cooked meat, seasoned and prepared. Ellie’s mouth watered. The raw meat hadn’t been bad, and Eric explained the need for meat in their diet after the curse awoke. She hoped this was going to be the way things always happened. She took the dish offered to her with a quiet “Thank you.” And followed Eric to a clear spot and settled down to eat. The food was quiet tasty and she finished it quickly. She looked at Eric.
“So where do we sleep?” Eric chuckled
“Don’t tell me you are tired already?” Ellie shook her head.
“No, I just was to go exploring.” Eric laughed harder.
“It’s a good thing you are a scout and are supposed to be nosy. Come on.” He looked at Samantha and Evie who were nearby. “I’m taking Ellie to explore, care to join us?”
